The original air filter box isn't the worst design when it comes to build really powerful engines. The box is capable of providing enough air for most road ridden scooters. The problem is the filter element used by the manufacturers. The chosen foam is so poor made that lots of the pores are closed and no air at all is getting through it. Tuned engines with the standard air filter solution are a night mare to ride. The mixture is far to rich and the engine splutters. A complete different story with the Red Sponge air filters. With those polyurethan foam is used. The pores are much finer and all of them are open. This gives a heavily increase to the air flow, which is spot on for very fast street going scooters. The combination of a high quality foam in the original air filter box gives a very original optic as well as a very nice and quiet induction noise. Upshot:The right choice for very fast engines with a very low-key optic to the forces of law.
