Lambretta (Innocenti) J 100 (Cento)

Lambretta (Innocenti) J 100 (Cento)

Description

Lambretta Junior

In 1964 Innocenti introduced a whole new scooter family with the Junior range. The simple and lightweight construction of the scooters should allow for lower prices and therefore appeal to new groups of customers.

The construction bears some similarities to Piaggio scooters by using a monocoque chassis. Also the access to the carburettor under a small plastic toolbox under the seat is similar to the smallframe Vespas. The engine however is placed centrally in the chassis and constructed along the lines of the larger LI series, even if the cylinder sits upright instead of lying horizontally. Depending on the model, a dual seat, a single seat or two single seats were fitted.

The engine is covered by side panels, which had external handles on most models. Most rubber parts were coloured grey, apart from the kickstart rubber and the stand feet, which came in black colour.

J100

The Cento (Italian for 100) was the first model of the Junior range and was flawed by the unusual capacity, even if market research had predicted that 100cc would be the ideal engine size. It was therefore soon accompanied by a 125cc version simply called J 125. Both models had a dual seat, three-speed gearbox and 3.00 10 wheels. The Cento had a power output of 4.7 hp and nearly reached 80 kph, while the J 125 broke this barrier with its 5.8 hp.

Production numbers were 17.643 for the Cento until November 1965, and 21.651 for the J 125 until October 1966.
