Wear of the rollers is characterized by a one-sided flattening, the rollers can no longer slide properly in the variator track. This results in poor acceleration and often a lower final speed as the variator can no longer fully extend due to the reduced diameter of the rollers.
To prevent premature wear, we recommend a dry lubricant based on PTFE instead of grease. This is not thrown out like grease after a few revolutions, but remains permanently in the variator.
NOTE: Please make sure before ordering which weights must be used in your variator. Often used vehicles are fitted with sports variators that use a different weight size than the original ones.
Therefore, when you choose a scooter, you will also find sizes that are not originally used in your vehicle.
Only if the engine develops its full power, e.g. by a different exhaust, only at higher speeds than the original, the weights should be chosen lighter. Otherwise it turns 'empty', has less power despite higher revs and accelerates accordingly worse, even if it sounds sportier.
Ideal for tuning are sets with different weight classes. Different weight sets can also be mixed, e.g. 3x5 grams and 3x7 grams. However, these must always be positioned alternately in the variator in order to avoid unbalance. In our example one would get the arithmetic mean of 6 grams. The only disadvantage is the slightly faster wear of the heavier weights.
Only after adjusting the variomatic the clutch springs should be selected accordingly. Otherwise they are often chosen too hard to compensate too heavy vario weights.
There is only one weight set with which the scooter has its best performance as well as acceleration. You can't influence the final speed with the weights unless you have chosen them so easily that the motor has no force to hit the back pressure spring.
The back pressure spring should always be as soft as possible but as hard as necessary. Then the V-belt will neither slip through nor will the drive be exposed to excessive friction, which would mean wear and loss of power.
