The tuning kit from NAGY BLECHROLLER is for the first generation engines of the Vespa Wideframe models from 1948-1952. These models have so called 1 channel engines. They were used by Piaggio in the models V1-15, V30-33, the economy model U125 as well as in the license builds of the Hoffmann Werke (A-C) and the British Douglas Rod models. The special feature of these engines is their, by today's standards, curious channel layout. The cylinder of these models has one channel each for intake, overcurrent and exhaust.
Because of the single overcurrent channel, this type of engine is called a 1-channel engine (cross-flow scavenging).
These motors can be recognized from the outside by the fact that the outlet and inlet flanges are directly next to each other. Furthermore, these motors are extremely short-stroke motors with a stroke of just under 50mm, which means that the pulling power from the lower speed range is also not particularly high ex works.

StROKE SPACE + RELIABILITY
This is where the Nagy tuning kit comes in. It was designed according to the simple but rarely implemented formula of displacement + reliability.
It consists of the following engine components:

  • Crankshaft (54/110) with needle bearing piston pin

  • Cylinder head (CNC milled) with increased compression ratio (1:8)

  • base gasket (0,4mm aramid)

  • head gasket (2mm alu)

  • Milling template to adjust the exhaust port

For this purpose the Nagy kit uses a very high quality crankshaft which is manufactured by Kingwelle from Germany. This crankshaft, precisely manufactured from extremely high quality material, has a stroke of 54mm. This not only results in an increase in displacement to 135cc, but also significantly extended timing angles of the cylinder.

FREE BREATHING - More timing angles + exhaust adjustment
The stroke compensation is realized via a spacer included in the kit. Since the cylinder's timing angles do not increase proportionally due to the increased stroke (due to the angular function, the overflow angle is increased more than the exhaust angle), it is necessary to widen the exhaust window in order to increase the advance exhaust angle (angle that the exhaust is open before the overflows). For this purpose, a template is included in the tuning kit, with which the exact dimensions can be easily maintained. After that, the cylinder can breathe much better, allowing the larger displacement to be filled properly.

CYLINDER HEAD - more pressure made in Germany
The original engine is factory compressed only with 6.5:1 (modern engines are often at twice the value). This is on the one hand due to the fuel available at that time with only 72-74ROZ, on the other hand due to the original, fissured combustion chamber, caused by the nose piston (deflector piston). Therefore, the Nagy tuning kit is rounded off by a cylinder head specially developed for this type of engine and CNC-milled from solid aluminum. This raises the compression ratio to a value of 8:1, despite the still used nose piston. With today's much more anti-knock fuels, as well as worlds better two-stroke oils (pure engine oil was added back then!), the compression of the Nagy kit nevertheless remains rather on the conservative side and thus guarantees absolute operational reliability. The massive CNC head also has a high heat absorption capacity and also looks very good, although it also disappears under the cylinder hood. The cylinder head, like the crankshaft, is produced in a German specialist company.

PERFORMANCE AND TORQUE
The longer stroke of the King crankshaft together with the adjustment of the exhaust angle results in the following timing angles of the cylinder:

  • Overflow 117°
  • Exhaust 160°
  • Advance 21.5
  • Compression ratio geometric: 8:1

The Nagy tuning package thus increases the power of the original engine to 4.5hp wheel power with a tight 9Nm torque, the whole with original components (carburetor/exhaust).
Thus, the engine is much more agile and powerful and masters especially slopes much more confidently than with the original engine, which can arrive at the rear wheel maximum 3PS.

CONCLUSION
The NAGY tuning kit is not cheap. However, compared to the value of the vehicle as well as the high quality tuning material from German production, it is from our point of view not an option but rather a must, especially if the vehicle is really to be moved on the road. A new crankshaft needs an over 70 years old engine anyway and the driving pleasure will more than compensate the costs. A big advantage is the retention of the original cylinder and the original exhaust. The conversion is therefore visually and acoustically invisible.
