Lambretta C & LC
The C model was built from 1950 to 1951. The C was the first model to be officially imported into the UK; the first step into what was soon to become the largest sales market. Despite the short production time of the C & LC, 130,000 units were built and sold mainly in Italy. This was a huge leap compared to the number of A & B models.
The engine was based on the tried and tested. The 125 cc displacement was cooled directly by the airstream. The engine block, on the other hand, was now part of the frame. The rear suspension was provided by a spring on a central guide rod. The power output is 4.3 hp and the 3-speed gearbox is still shifted with the Teleflex cable. The proven MA16 Dellorto is used and despite the 10 kg low weight, the speed is specified at 70 km/h.
Unlike the A & B, the frame of the C consists of one piece. The tank is located under the piece of frame on which the rider's saddle is located. Under the optional passenger saddle is a tool compartment, for which an oval bracket has been welded to the frame.
The handlebars evoke associations with bicycle handlebars. A large round headlight at the front on the steering column and a small, round rear light directly above the license plate provide the lighting. The front suspension is provided by a trailing arm at the bottom of the fork. The C model had drum brakes at the front and rear.
An extensive range of accessories for the Lambretta also appeared with the C. This ranged from speedometers, cascades, spare wheels, floor mats, grips and foxtails to complete fairings that turned the scooter into half a car. And which apparently inspired BMW to create the C1.
