Introduction
Aprilia Atlantic 300 (2011, ZD4SPG00)
The Aprilia Atlantic 300 is a scooter from the Italian manufacturer Aprilia, launched in 2011. This model belongs to the maxi-scooter category and was developed as a powerful, comfortable option for urban and suburban use.
The Atlantic 300 was aimed at riders looking for a versatile scooter suitable for both daily use and longer distances. It was part of the Atlantic series, which Aprilia introduced in the early 2000s, and represented an evolution within this series under the leadership of Piaggio.
Model History
Historically, the Aprilia Atlantic 300 stands in the third phase of the Atlantic series, which began in 2003 with the Atlantic 125 and 200 models. Aprilia, founded in 1945 by Alberto Beggio as a bicycle manufacturer, transformed under Ivano Beggio from the 1960s into a motorcycle producer and started scooter production in the 1980s through collaboration with Rotax with the Amico (1990).
After models like the Scarabeo and Leonardo, the Atlantic series was expanded from 2003, with the Atlantic 300 introduced as the successor to the earlier 250 version (2005-2008). It positioned itself between the Atlantic 250 and the larger Atlantic 500, showcasing Aprilia's focus on more powerful maxi-scooters after the acquisition by Piaggio in 2004.
Technical Details
Technically, the Aprilia Atlantic 300 is equipped with a water-cooled 278 cc four-stroke engine, delivering about 22 hp (approximately 16.2 kW) at 7,500 rpm. The engine, a Piaggio Quasar engine, features electronic injection and is coupled with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a belt, allowing for easy operation.
The top speed is around 125 km/h. The frame consists of a sturdy steel tube construction, the suspension includes a front telescopic fork with a 35 mm diameter and a rear swingarm with two adjustable shock absorbers. The braking system consists of disc brakes on both wheels, with the front disc having a diameter of 260 mm. With a dry weight of about 165 kg and a tank volume of 9.5 liters, the Atlantic 300 was robust and designed for longer rides.
Design and Features
The Aprilia Atlantic 300 was offered in several colors, including black, silver, and white, with exact availability varying by market. These color options emphasized the modern and elegant style of the scooter.
Official special models of the Atlantic 300 are not documented, but there were differences within the Atlantic series between the displacement variants (125, 200, 250, 300, 500), which differed in technical details and equipment. Optionally, the scooter could be equipped with accessories such as a top case, a higher windshield, or a passenger backrest to increase comfort and functionality, with the standard version being the focus of production.
