Introduction

Aprilia Atlantic 400 Sprint (2005-2007, ZD4VLB)

The Aprilia Atlantic 400 Sprint is a scooter from the Italian manufacturer Aprilia, produced between 2005 and 2007. This model belongs to the maxi-scooter category and was developed as a powerful and comfortable option within the Atlantic range.
The Atlantic 400 Sprint was aimed at riders looking for a scooter for urban and suburban use, which performed well both in everyday life and on longer journeys. It was introduced in January 2007 and was part of the Atlantic series, which Aprilia established in the early 2000s to be present in the market for larger scooters.

Model History

Historically, the Aprilia Atlantic 400 Sprint belongs to the second phase of the Atlantic range, which began in 2003 with the Atlantic 125 and 200 models. Aprilia, founded in 1945 by Alberto Beggio as a bicycle manufacturer, transformed under Ivano Beggio from the 1960s into a motorcycle producer and started scooter production in the 1980s with the Amico (1990) through collaboration with Rotax.
Following models like the Scarabeo and Leonardo, Aprilia introduced the Atlantic series in 2003, which was expanded in 2005 with the Atlantic 400 Sprint, a variant with a larger engine capacity. It stands between the Atlantic 250 and the Atlantic 500 Sprint and demonstrates Aprilia's effort, after being acquired by Piaggio in 2004, to cover various engine capacities in the maxi-scooter segment. The Atlantic 400 Sprint shares its chassis with the Atlantic 500 Sprint and was positioned as a mid-range option.

Technical Details

Technically, the Aprilia Atlantic 400 Sprint is equipped with a water-cooled 399 cc four-stroke engine, delivering about 34 hp (approximately 25 kW) at 7,500 rpm. The engine, a Piaggio single-cylinder with electronic injection, is coupled with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a belt, allowing for easy operation. The top speed is around 130 km/h.
The frame consists of a double cradle made of high-strength steel tubing, the suspension includes a front hydraulic telescopic fork with a 35 mm diameter and 105 mm travel, and rear twin gas-filled shock absorbers with adjustable preload and 90 mm travel. The braking system consists of a 260 mm front disc brake with a three-piston caliper and a 190 mm rear disc brake. With a dry weight of about 199 kg and a fuel tank capacity of 15 liters (including 2 liters reserve), the Atlantic 400 Sprint was designed for longer rides.

Color Options and Accessories

The Aprilia Atlantic 400 Sprint was offered in several colors, including black, silver, and blue, with exact availability varying by market. These color options emphasized the modern and dynamic style of the scooter.
Official special models of the Atlantic 400 Sprint are not documented, but there were differences within the Atlantic range between the engine capacity variants (125, 200, 250, 400, 500), which differed in technical details and equipment. Optionally, the scooter could be equipped with accessories such as a top case, a higher windshield, or a passenger backrest to increase comfort and functionality, with the standard version being the focus of production.
