Introduction

Aprilia SR 50 R Factory Di-Tech (2004–2014, ZD4VFB)

The Aprilia SR 50 R Factory Di-Tech (ZD4VFB) is a sporty high-tech scooter in the 50cc class, produced by the Italian manufacturer Aprilia between 2004 and 2014. It belongs to the SR 50 range, which has been known since 1992 for its distinctive design and technical innovations.
The term "Di-Tech" stands for "Direct Injection Technology" – a modern direct fuel injection system that makes the two-stroke engine cleaner and more fuel-efficient. The Factory version combines this technology with sporty equipment features inspired by motorsport.

Model History

The SR 50 R Factory Di-Tech was introduced in 2004 as a premium variant of the SR 50 lineup. It was based on the SR 50 R but received updated bodywork, sportier graphics, aluminum components, and a higher level of standard equipment.
Through the electronic direct injection system, developed in cooperation with Orbital (Australia), the scooter was able to meet strict emissions standards early on while also offering excellent fuel efficiency.
Over its production years, the design remained distinctive but was updated several times in details and color schemes to maintain a close visual link to Aprilia’s racing motorcycles.

Technical Details

Engine and Performance

The SR 50 R Factory Di-Tech is powered by a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, two-stroke engine with a displacement of 49 cc. The direct injection system delivers fuel precisely into the combustion chamber, reducing fuel consumption and significantly improving emissions.
The engine produces around 3.5 kW (4.8 hp) at 6,500 rpm. The top speed is restricted to about 45 km/h; in derestricted form, the scooter can reach higher speeds depending on the market version.
Power is transmitted via a continuously variable transmission (CVT), ensuring smooth acceleration without gear changes.

Chassis and Brakes

The chassis features a robust telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear, providing precise handling and good ride comfort.
The braking system consists of a 190 mm front disc brake and a 190 mm rear disc brake – a sporty twin-disc setup that is relatively rare in the 50cc class and provides strong stopping power.
With a dry weight of around 97 kg and a wheelbase of approximately 1,290 mm, the SR 50 R Factory Di-Tech is both agile and stable. The 130/60-13 tires front and rear ensure optimal grip.

Design and Special Editions

Typical of the Factory version are high-quality finishes, multi-piece fairing elements, and sporty paintwork and graphics often inspired by Aprilia’s MotoGP or Superbike race machines.
Color variants included "Replica", "Diablo Black", "Flame Red", and limited racing-inspired designs.
Special editions included GP- or SBK-themed graphics aimed at riders with a strong sporting focus.
Thanks to its combination of innovative engine technology, premium equipment, and sporty looks, the SR 50 R Factory Di-Tech is still considered one of the most technologically advanced 50cc scooters of its time.
