Introduction

Aprilia Leonardo 125 ST (2001–2002, ZD4MB)

The Aprilia Leonardo 125 ST is a sporty yet elegant scooter from the Italian manufacturer Aprilia, produced in 2001 and 2002. It belongs to the well-known Leonardo range, first launched in the late 1990s, and represents an evolution of the original Leonardo 125, with the "ST" standing for "Sport Touring".
With its modern design, liquid-cooled four-stroke engine, and balanced equipment, the Leonardo 125 ST targeted riders seeking style and comfort both for city commuting and longer journeys.

Model History

The Leonardo series was originally introduced in 1996 and marked Aprilia’s entry into the premium compact scooter segment. With the Leonardo 125 ST, Aprilia released a refined version in 2001, offering improved details and subtle design upgrades over its predecessor.
The ST version featured updated color options, refined controls, and a redesigned instrument cluster. It was launched during a period when Aprilia was successfully positioning itself in the 125 cc class alongside competitors like Piaggio and Yamaha.

Technical Details

The Aprilia Leonardo 125 ST is powered by a liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine with 124 cc displacement, producing approximately 12 hp (9 kW) at around 9,000 rpm. The engine is based on a Rotax unit, known for its reliability and strong performance. Power is transmitted via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Top speed is around 105 km/h. The chassis consists of a robust steel tube frame. Suspension includes a 30 mm telescopic fork at the front and a swingarm with two adjustable rear shock absorbers. Braking is handled by disc brakes front (220 mm) and rear (190 mm). Dry weight is about 120 kg, and the fuel tank holds approximately 9 liters.

Color Options and Accessories

The Leonardo 125 ST was available in several modern color finishes, including anthracite, silver, and dark blue. These paint options complemented the scooter’s sleek, urban design.
While no special editions are officially documented, the ST version could easily be distinguished from the base Leonardo by its styling upgrades and enhanced equipment. Optional accessories included a top case, windshield, passenger backrest, and a windscreen for improved weather protection – perfect for daily commuting customization.
