Introduction
Aprilia Rally 50 LC (1996–1999, ZD4MD)
The Aprilia Rally 50 LC is the liquid-cooled, sportier version of the popular Rally 50 scooter, produced by the Italian manufacturer Aprilia between 1996 and 1999. The "LC" stands for Liquid Cooled, indicating improved cooling performance, higher power output, and a more dynamic riding experience.
With its aggressive design, distinctive twin-headlight front, and high-performance features, the Rally 50 LC was especially popular among sporty riders and tuning enthusiasts.
Model History
Following the success of the air-cooled Rally 50, Aprilia introduced the Rally 50 LC in 1996 as a performance-oriented version powered by a liquid-cooled Minarelli engine. It was aimed at riders seeking maximum performance from a 50cc scooter – both for daily use and legal tuning purposes.
The model received technical upgrades including a more powerful braking system, firmer suspension, and a sharper, sportier appearance. Production ended in 1999 when it was succeeded by the even more aggressive SR 50 LC.
Technical Details
The Rally 50 LC is powered by a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, two-stroke 49cc Minarelli horizontal engine. Depending on the version (restricted or unrestricted), it delivers between 3 and 7 hp. Power is transmitted via a continuously variable transmission (CVT), enabling responsive acceleration.
Top speed ranges from around 45 km/h (restricted) to 80 km/h (unrestricted). The chassis consists of a torsion-resistant steel tube frame, with a telescopic fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. Brakes include a front disc (Ø approx. 190–220 mm) and a rear drum. Fuel tank capacity is around 7 liters, and dry weight is approx. 88–90 kg.
Color Options and Accessories
The Rally 50 LC was offered in sporty colors such as black-red, blue-silver, and special editions in white-yellow. Its racing appeal was further highlighted by colored rims, graphic decals, and matte black trim.
Accessories included a small windshield, luggage rack, and custom seat covers. Thanks to its Minarelli LC engine, the Rally 50 LC was a favorite in the tuning scene, with a wide range of aftermarket parts for performance and styling upgrades.
