Introduction
The Aprilia Scarabeo 100
The Aprilia Scarabeo 100 (2000, ZD4REA) is a scooter launched in 2000 by the Italian manufacturer Aprilia. Founded in 1945 by Alberto Beggio as a bicycle producer, Aprilia developed into a significant name in the motorcycle and scooter world under the leadership of his son Ivano Beggio from the 1960s onwards.
The Scarabeo 100 is part of the Scarabeo model range, which was introduced in 1993 with the Scarabeo 50 and is characterized by an elegant, timeless design.
While Aprilia was also known for sporty models like the RS series in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Scarabeo 100 was aimed at riders seeking a practical and stylish scooter for everyday use.
Its appearance in 2000 coincides with Aprilia's acquisition of Laverda and Moto Guzzi, before the company was taken over by the Piaggio Group in 2004.
Technical Details
Engine and Performance
Technically, the Aprilia Scarabeo 100 (ZD4REA) is equipped with a 100cc four-stroke engine that is air-cooled and carburetor-operated. This engine offers higher performance than the 50cc variants of the Scarabeo range and is designed for a top speed of about 90 km/h, depending on the respective registration regulations.
Power transmission is via a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), making the scooter particularly user-friendly.
Chassis and Brakes
The chassis includes a telescopic fork at the front and a single shock absorber at the rear. The braking system consists of a front disc brake and a rear drum brake.
With a dry weight of about 105 kg and a tank capacity of around 8 liters, the Scarabeo 100 is designed for urban use, with its design featuring rounded shapes and a large round headlight reminiscent of classic scooters.
Design and Variants
The Aprilia Scarabeo 100 (ZD4REA) was painted in various colors that emphasized its elegant and timeless style. Available paint finishes included black, silver, blue, and red, often in metallic tones, giving the scooter a high-quality appearance.
Regarding special models, there are no clear indications that Aprilia released special or limited editions of the Scarabeo 100 (ZD4REA) in 2000.
While the Scarabeo range received various variants and engine capacities over the years, the 100cc version from 2000 remained largely uniform in its execution.
