Introduction
The Aprilia Scarabeo 100
The Aprilia Scarabeo 100 (2001-2005, ZD4VA) is a scooter produced by the Italian manufacturer Aprilia between 2001 and 2005. Founded in 1945 by Alberto Beggio as a bicycle manufacturer, Aprilia developed into a significant producer of motorcycles and scooters under the leadership of his son Ivano Beggio from the 1960s onwards.
The Scarabeo 100 is part of the Scarabeo model range, which debuted in 1993 with the Scarabeo 50 and became known for its elegant, classic design.
While Aprilia was also appreciated in the early 2000s for sporty models like the RS series or the Rally scooter, the Scarabeo 100 was aimed at riders seeking a stylish and practical scooter for daily use.
Its production period spans the years following Aprilia's acquisition of Laverda and Moto Guzzi in 2000 and includes the integration of the company into the Piaggio Group in 2004.
Technical Details
Engine and Performance
Technically, the Aprilia Scarabeo 100 (ZD4VA) is equipped with a 100cc four-stroke engine that is air-cooled and carbureted.
This engine offers higher performance than the 50cc variant of the Scarabeo range and is designed for a top speed of about 90 km/h, depending on the respective registration regulations.
Power transmission is via a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), making the scooter particularly user-friendly.
Chassis and Brakes
The chassis includes a telescopic fork at the front and a single shock absorber at the rear.
The braking system consists of a front disc brake and a rear drum brake.
With a dry weight of about 105 kg and a fuel tank capacity of around 8 liters, the Scarabeo 100 is designed for urban use, featuring a timeless aesthetic with rounded shapes and a large round headlight.
Design and Variants
The Aprilia Scarabeo 100 (ZD4VA) was painted in various colors that emphasized its elegant and classic character.
Available paint finishes included black, silver, blue, and red, often in metallic tones, giving the scooter a high-quality appearance.
Regarding special models, there are no clear indications that Aprilia released special or limited editions of the Scarabeo 100 (ZD4VA) during the production years 2001 to 2005.
Although the Scarabeo range was expanded over time with different engine capacities and design variations, the 100cc version of these model years remained largely uniform in its execution.
