The Aprilia Scarabeo 50 (ZD4TG) is a high-quality, large-wheeled 50cc scooter from the Italian manufacturer Aprilia, produced between 2002 and 2009. Unlike the concurrently available air-cooled version (ZD4TH), the ZD4TG model is the more powerful liquid-cooled variant, recognizable by its sportier components and setup.

Model History

Introduced in 2002, the Scarabeo 50 ZD4TG complemented the air-cooled Scarabeo models. While the ZD4TH variant focused on simplicity and everyday use, the ZD4TG version targeted sportier riders looking for more power and technology. Both shared the reliable horizontal Minarelli two-stroke engine, though the ZD4TG was equipped with a liquid-cooling system and radiator.
Over its production span, the Scarabeo 50 LC (ZD4TG) received minor updates to its fairings, color schemes, and electronics. With its agile handling and stylish presence, it became a popular choice among young scooter riders across Europe.

Technical Details

The Aprilia Scarabeo 50 (ZD4TG) is powered by a liquid-cooled horizontal single-cylinder two-stroke Minarelli engine with 49 cc displacement. Depending on restrictions, it delivers between approx. 3 and 6.5 hp. Power is transmitted via a continuously variable CVT belt drive.
Top speed is approx. 45 km/h (restricted) and up to 75 km/h (derestricted). The scooter features a hydraulic telescopic fork at the front and a rear mono-shock. Brakes include a 220 mm front disc and a rear drum. Dry weight is approx. 91 kg, and the fuel tank holds about 7 liters.

Color Options and Accessories

The Scarabeo 50 LC was available in several colors, including silver, red, black, and blue. Sportier decals, metallic finishes, and special editions such as the “Street” version were also offered.
