Introduction

Aprilia - SXR 160 BSVI (2021–2023, METMD)

The Aprilia SXR 160 BSVI is a modern, comfort-oriented compact maxi-scooter produced between 2021 and 2023 by the Italian manufacturer Aprilia. It combines Italian design with modern technology and was specifically developed for markets such as India, where a balanced mix of style, performance, and everyday practicality is in high demand.
With its distinctive look reminiscent of larger touring scooters, the SXR 160 is aimed at riders seeking a comfortable, well-equipped vehicle for daily city commuting as well as longer rides.

Model History

The SXR range was introduced in 2020 to target the growing premium scooter segment in the Asian market. The Aprilia SXR 160 BSVI entered the market in 2021, meeting the Bharat Stage VI (BSVI) emission standard, which imposes stricter emission limits in India.
Positioned as a more comfortable alternative to the sport-oriented SR series, the SXR 160 offers an upright seating position, increased storage space, and a more comprehensive standard equipment package.
Production continued until 2023, with the model competing directly against scooters such as the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 and Honda Grazia, while offering noticeably higher performance thanks to its larger engine capacity.

Technical Details

The Aprilia SXR 160 BSVI is powered by an air-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine with a displacement of 160.03 cc.
The engine produces around 8.1 kW (11 hp) at 7,600 rpm and delivers a maximum torque of about 11.6 Nm at 6,000 rpm.

Top speed is around 90–95 km/h, depending on load and riding conditions.

Chassis and Brakes

The chassis features a sturdy frame construction combined with a hydraulic telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers, designed to deliver a comfortable and secure ride.
The braking system includes a 220 mm front disc brake and a 140 mm rear drum brake, supported by a standard CBS (Combined Braking System).
With a kerb weight of around 129 kg and a wheelbase of 1,353 mm, the SXR 160 is stable yet agile in city traffic.
It rides on 12-inch alloy wheels fitted with 120/70-12 tyres at both the front and rear.
