Introduction

The model "Aprilia - SR 50 Di-Tech (2000–2003, ZD4RLB-RLD-RLE)" is an advanced sporty scooter produced by Aprilia between 2000 and 2003.
It belongs to the first generation of SR 50 models featuring direct fuel injection (“Di-Tech”), which became known for its eco-friendly technology and efficiency.
The Di-Tech technology (Direct Injection Technology) made it possible to operate two-stroke engines with lower emissions and fuel consumption – a major innovation in the 50 cc segment.

Technological Development

With the introduction of the SR 50 Di-Tech, Aprilia launched one of the first two-wheelers with electronic direct injection in 2000.
The models ZD4RLB, ZD4RLD, and ZD4RLE marked this transition to cleaner technology that complied with the environmental regulations of the early 2000s.
The Di-Tech system was developed in collaboration with Orbital (Australia) and used a separate air injection system that injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber – significantly more efficient than traditional carburetor models.
This modern injection system appealed especially to urban riders who valued performance, fuel efficiency, and environmental awareness.

Technical Details

Engine and Performance

The Aprilia SR 50 Di-Tech (2000–2003) is powered by a liquid-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke engine with direct fuel injection.
With a displacement of 49 cm³, the engine produces around 3.5 kW (4.8 hp) at 6,500 rpm.
The Di-Tech system ensures precise fuel metering, which not only reduces fuel consumption but also lowers emissions.
The top speed is (restricted) around 45 km/h – depending on local regulations. The CVT transmission provides seamless and continuous power delivery.

Chassis and Brakes

The chassis consists of a hydraulic telescopic fork at the front and a mono shock absorber at the rear, offering solid stability and sporty handling.
Braking is handled by a 190 mm disc brake at the front and a 110 mm drum brake at the rear – a proven combination in this class.
With a dry weight of around 91 kg and a wheelbase of 1,290 mm, the scooter remains agile despite its advanced technology. Tires in size 130/60-13 front and rear complete the sporty setup.

Color Variants and Special Editions

The SR 50 Di-Tech was available in many different colors, including "Rosso" (Red), "Nero" (Black), "Blu" (Blue), "Argento" (Silver), and some more striking color combinations.
Among the well-known special editions was the “Racing Replica,” which visually mirrored Aprilia's racing machines – including special graphics and decals.
Thanks to its modern technology and sporty image, the model quickly became one of the most popular SR 50 versions of its time – not least due to its role as a pioneer in the scooter scene.
