Aprilia SR 50 Di-Tech (2003-2012, ZD4TE)

Introduction

The model "Aprilia - SR 50 Di-Tech (2003–2012, ZD4TE)" is an innovative 50cc scooter with direct fuel injection, produced by Aprilia over nearly a decade.
As the successor to the first Di-Tech generation, the ZD4TE combines modern technology, sporty design, and improved environmental performance.
The SR 50 Di-Tech is aimed at young, urban riders who value dynamic performance, fuel efficiency, and lower emissions – without compromising on power.

Technological Advancements

With the SR 50 Di-Tech from the ZD4TE series, Aprilia introduced an enhanced version of its successful direct injection technology.
The Orbital DiTech system (direct injection with air assist) enables fuel to be injected directly into the combustion chamber – delivering lower fuel consumption, cleaner combustion, and reduced emissions.
The vehicle already met modern emission standards early on, making it especially suitable for urban environments.
Paired with a liquid-cooled engine, electronic management, and a sporty silhouette, the SR 50 Di-Tech set benchmarks in the 50cc scooter segment.

Technical Specifications

Engine and Performance

The SR 50 Di-Tech (ZD4TE) features a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, two-stroke engine with a displacement of 49 cm³ and electronic direct fuel injection.
It delivers approximately 3.5 kW (4.8 hp) at 6,500 rpm, with a top speed of around 45 km/h in its restricted version – de-restricted models can reach significantly higher speeds.
The continuously variable transmission (CVT) ensures smooth acceleration and seamless power delivery.

Chassis and Brakes

The chassis consists of a telescopic fork at the front and a mono shock at the rear, providing good control and agile handling.
Braking is handled by a 190 mm front disc and a 110 mm rear drum – a proven combination in this category.
With a dry weight of around 91 kg and a wheelbase of 1,290 mm, the scooter remains compact and easy to handle in city traffic. The 130/60-13 tires enhance its sporty character.

Color Variants and Special Editions

The SR 50 Di-Tech (2003–2012) was available in numerous color options – including red, black, silver, blue, and various special paint schemes depending on the market and production year.
Notable editions included the “Racing Replica” with graphic designs inspired by Aprilia’s GP race bikes.
Some models also featured special graphics or themed designs such as the “R Factory” variant, emphasizing the sporty image.
Thanks to its technical innovation, iconic design, and long production span, the ZD4TE is considered one of the most popular SR 50 versions ever made.
