Introduction

The most powerful production scooter of its time

The model "Aprilia – SRV 850 (2013, ZAPM55103)" was one of the most powerful production scooters in the world when it was launched.
It combines the advantages of a maxi scooter with the power and dynamics of a motorcycle – a concept that Aprilia consistently derived from its racing expertise.
The SRV 850 targets experienced riders seeking sporty handling, high performance, and long-distance capability in a single vehicle.

Model History

Motorcycle technology in a maxi scooter

The SRV 850 is technically based on the Gilera GP 800 but was redesigned by Aprilia with a unique look, altered ergonomics, and a sportier setup.
Introduced in 2012 as Aprilia's new flagship in the maxi scooter segment, the version with type designation ZAPM55103 corresponds to the 2013 model year.
Unlike most scooters of its time, the SRV 850 features a chassis layout and engine performance that are more typical of motorcycles than traditional scooters.
This approach bridges two worlds – appealing both to sporty commuters and touring riders who prefer the scooter format.

Technical Details

Engine, Performance, and Drive

The Aprilia SRV 850 is powered by a **liquid-cooled 90° V-twin four-stroke engine** with a displacement of 839 cm³.
It delivers approximately **56 kW (76 hp)** at 7,750 rpm and a maximum torque of around **76 Nm** at 6,000 rpm.
Fuel delivery is via **electronic fuel injection**, paired with a **continuously variable transmission (CVT)** and an automatic centrifugal clutch.
The engine complies with **EURO 3 emission standards** (as of 2013) and offers strong torque throughout the rev range – ideal for fast cruising and highway use.
Power is transmitted via a low-maintenance belt drive in a sealed housing.

Chassis, Brakes & Dimensions

The frame is a steel tube structure with bolted aluminum components, ensuring high torsional stiffness.
At the front, a 41 mm telescopic fork is used, and at the rear, a dual swingarm with two adjustable shock absorbers.
Brakes: dual front disc brakes Ø 300 mm with radial calipers, rear single disc Ø 280 mm.
Tires: front **120/70‑16**, rear **160/60‑15** – unusually sporty dimensions for a scooter.
Wheelbase: 1,595 mm, seat height: 780 mm, dry weight: approx. 249 kg.
Fuel tank capacity: 18.5 liters, with a fuel consumption of around 5 l/100 km providing long range.
Top speed: over 180 km/h – making the SRV 850 one of the fastest scooters ever built.

Design and Variants

Sporty looks with racing DNA

The SRV 850’s design is inspired by Aprilia’s superbikes, especially the RSV4 – with an aggressively styled front end, prominent LED daytime running lights, and angular fairing elements.
The twin headlights, high windscreen, and wide rear section give the scooter a powerful appearance.
Instrumentation combines analog speedometer/rev counter with digital displays and a trip computer.
The SRV 850 was available in several color options, including classic black, racing red, and white with black accents.
Accessories such as a top case, windshield variations, and comfort seats were available optionally. An ABS version was also offered.
