The VN is the last Italian model with the headlight on the mudguard and the last wideframe in the 125 series. The successor to the VM is regarded as a low-cost model, as the 150 cc models now have a higher priority at Piaggio and some - mainly visual - features have been slimmed down. For example, compared to the VM, there are only 7 (instead of the previous 9) footrests, the swingarm cover is omitted, the lettering and emblem are produced more cheaply and the main stand has no rubber feet. However, the engine of the VN corresponds to that of the predecessor model VM, only the nose of the piston is given a flatter shape in order to (quote Vespa Tecnica) "avoid the metallic noises". The kickstarter and the brake pedal are made of cast aluminum and have a waffle pattern on the tread surface, the rubber covers are omitted. (Source: GSF)
