The Spanish Motovespa 125, 150 and 160 models were produced under license in Madrid from 1953. Many of these large-frame vehicles combine classic Italian designs with Spanish features for the frame, engine and electrics. Over the decades, Motovespa developed numerous versions of its own, which were often equipped to a higher standard and clearly differed technically from their Italian sister models. This individuality makes the Motovespa model series particularly exciting for restorers and collectors today.

Typical Motovespa largeframe models include the 125cc VT, N and S series as well as later independent 150cc and 160cc versions. Many models use engines that are based on the Italian Largeframe line in terms of design, but are equipped with their own engine housings, carburetor designs and ignition systems. The shape of the frame, the brake shoe pressings and bodywork details are also often visibly different from Italian vehicles. These structural peculiarities require special attention when selecting spare parts.

Technical features of the Motovespa 125/150/160
Many Motovespa models have an engine that is not completely identical to Italian largeframes. Typical features include different crankcase shapes, specific fan wheel geometries, independent carburetor designs and different ignition components. Bodywork details such as the shape of the cheeks, fender pressings and emblems were also frequently modified in Spain. This clear in-house development gives Motovespa vehicles an unmistakable character and makes them technically interesting, but at the same time more challenging to restore.
Thanks to the many years of licensed production and the wide range of variants, Motovespa scooters are now an important chapter in Vespa history and are enjoying growing popularity in the classic largeframe segment.
