The Yamaha DT 50 series use air- or water-cooled two-stroke engines with manual five-speed transmission. The RD 80 LC II relies on a powerful, liquid-cooled two-stroke engine and a sportier road chassis. Typical maintenance work includes carburetor tuning, ignition service, clutch, transmission oil, drive chain as well as brake and suspension components.
Technical differences between the DT 50 and RD 80 LC II
The DT models are based on lightweight enduro bikes with higher ground clearance, longer suspension travel and studded tires. The RD 80 LC II offers a sportier frame geometry, a firmer set-up and a water-cooled engine with a free-revving character. These differences have an effect on wear parts, brake components and suspension set-up.
Maintenance, wear and typical areas of use
The two-stroke units react sensitively to correct carburetor tuning, spark plug selection and clean lubrication. The chain, sprockets, brakes and damping are regular replacement items.
