Introduction

Aprilia - Mojito 125 Custom (2000–2001, ZD4PM)

The Aprilia Mojito 125 Custom from model years 2000 to 2001 (type ZD4PM) is a distinctive scooter that blends classic retro styling with modern technology. Building on the successful foundation of the Mojito/Habana series, the Custom version embraced the look and feel of American cruisers – featuring high handlebars, a low seat, and striking chrome details.
Aprilia cleverly combined Italian elegance with relaxed riding ergonomics to create a scooter that stood out both visually and technically. The Mojito Custom quickly became a favorite among style-conscious riders looking for more than just practical urban mobility.

Model History

The introduction of the Mojito Custom marked a deliberate shift by Aprilia toward more emotional and character-driven vehicle concepts. While the standard Mojito, with its clean lines and Vespa-inspired silhouette, targeted the urban commuter, the Custom version was aimed at individualists with a flair for bold design.
Starting in 2000, the model was marketed internationally as the “Mojito Custom” or “Habana Custom.” Technically based on the standard Mojito with a 125 cc four-stroke engine, this version featured a modified handlebar, custom seat, adapted floorboard, and various unique trim elements. The model’s popularity helped Aprilia establish a strong presence in the emerging retro scooter segment.

Technical Details

At the heart of the Mojito 125 Custom is an air-cooled, single-cylinder four-stroke engine with a horizontal layout and OHV valve control. It delivers around 10 hp (7.5 kW) at approximately 8,500 rpm – sufficient for confident riding in urban and suburban environments.
The engine is known for its smooth operation, low fuel consumption, and ease of maintenance. Power is transmitted via a continuously variable transmission (CVT), ensuring a relaxed ride without gear changes. The fuel tank holds about 8.5 liters, which – combined with the economical engine – enables a range of over 200 km. Depending on load and terrain, top speed ranges between 90–95 km/h.

Chassis and Brakes

The Mojito Custom features a sturdy steel tube frame with a low step-through design, making mounting and dismounting easy while contributing to the scooter’s flowing silhouette. With a seat height of just under 760 mm, the scooter is particularly well-suited for smaller riders.
Suspension consists of a traditional telescopic fork up front and a single shock absorber at the rear, offering comfortable handling even on rough roads. A 190 mm front disc brake and a rear drum brake provide reliable stopping power – a standard setup in this class at the time. The 12-inch front and 10-inch rear tires strike a good balance between agility and ride stability.

Color Variants

The Mojito 125 Custom came in a range of eye-catching yet elegant colors that emphasized its retro character. Popular finishes included black, ivory, metallic green, and pastel shades with matte effects. Chrome accents such as mirrors, handlebar ends, and trim strips gave the scooter its iconic look.
Many units left the factory or were later fitted with accessories such as whitewall tires, luggage racks, windshields, or leather seat covers – personalization was not only possible but encouraged with this model.
