Lambretta TV 175
Series 3
In 1962, a new Innocenti flagship was launched on the market: the TV 175 Series 3. The design was very much based on the Li models. However, the steering head, cascade and mudguards differed significantly. The new handlebar head has a hexagonal lamp trim ring and a trapezoidal speedometer. The light switch is integrated in the ignition lock. Only the low and high beam and the horn are operated by the switch on the right handlebar element. The front mudguard is made of fiberglass and is more angular. The cascade has a wider and flatter horn grille. The Tourismo Veloce 175 is the first series-produced two-wheeler in the world to be supplied with a front disc brake. This is manufactured by Campagnolo, has internal floating bearings and is mechanically operated.
The engine has a displacement of 175 cc. The layout of the cylinder enables a high torque. Together with the SH20 carburetor, the engine produces 8.7 hp and has no problems pulling the long gearbox, which will one day also be found in the SX 200. The crankshaft has a 58 mm stroke, like all Li Lambrettas (apart from the TV 1), but a 116 mm connecting rod (as opposed to the more common 107 mm). Wider silent blocks are intended to dampen vibrations.
Cosmetic corrections are also made during production. Instead of the Li side covers, the TV will soon have the side covers that are also found on the Special models. The chrome ring under the handlebars disappears. The early color combinations were based on an all-white vehicle with the option of yellow, red or blue for the side hoods, cascade and mudguards. Further two-tone paint finishes were available in grey/dark grey and ivory/brown. Later, the TV 175 was only offered in blue metallic. These vehicles also received a specific plate under the seat bench.
Production of the TV 175 Series 3 ended in October with 37,794 units built.
