The engine remains original – its electronic control does not. With the MALOSSI Injtronic, the Vespa Sprint 50 IGET and Primavera 50 IGET from model year 2024 receive an engine control unit that takes the electronic management of the standard IGET engine decisively in a performance-oriented direction. This version, Malossi part number 5520200B, has been specifically developed for vehicles with the original cylinder.
Inside the distinctive red Malossi housing is modern electronics with genuine racing DNA: a 32-bit microprocessor and a hardware platform developed according to current automotive industry quality standards take care of the engine management. The calibration developed for the standard engine modifies the fuel injection parameters and raises the RPM limit to 10,000 rpm. This gives the small IGET engine considerably more electronic freedom than with the standard control unit.
The calibration is what makes the difference: the Injtronic 5520200B is neither a universal CDI nor the version intended for a Malossi tuning cylinder. Its mapping has been specifically developed for Vespa Sprint and Primavera 50 IGET models from 2024 equipped with the original cylinder. For riders who want to retain the standard cylinder while giving the electronic engine management a more performance-oriented setup, this provides a vehicle-specific solution directly from Malossi.
A central feature of the Injtronic calibration is the 10,000 rpm rev limiter. Together with the modified fuel injection management, this allows the engine to use its available RPM range differently compared with the standard electronics. Especially with a sport-oriented transmission setup, this additional freedom becomes an important part of the overall performance concept.
Malossi combines its racing experience with modern digital engine management. The result is not a freely programmable tuning box, but an ECU already calibrated for the intended vehicle and engine configuration.
Despite its performance-oriented design, installation remains reassuringly close to the original configuration. The Injtronic is designed as a Plug-and-Play solution and works with the vehicle's original sensors and actuators. The original control unit is removed and the Malossi unit is installed in its position using the existing connections.
Its compact design also follows the layout of the original component. The product image shows the characteristic red Malossi housing with integrated mounting points and a directly attached multi-pin connector. There is no additional external control panel, display or separate adjustment module – the electronics are integrated compactly into the actual engine control unit.
After installation, the TPS calibration procedure specified by Malossi must be carried out. During this procedure, the minimum and maximum throttle positions are learned using a defined sequence of throttle positions and ignition key operations. The Check Engine light serves as a status indicator during the process.
Without successful TPS calibration, the vehicle will not start and the Check Engine light will flash. Following calibration, Malossi also specifies an initialisation procedure with the engine cold: the engine must be left idling for 15 minutes without operating the throttle. The ignition is then switched according to the sequence described in the installation instructions.
After installation of the Malossi Injtronic, the vehicle's diagnostic connection can no longer communicate with the Piaggio diagnostic tester. The Check Engine light, however, retains its warning function. If a fault is indicated, Malossi recommends temporarily reinstalling the original control unit for diagnostic purposes.
The Injtronic is designed for vehicles originally equipped with an immobilizer system, but the Malossi ECU itself does not contain an immobilizer. The flashing LED in the instrument panel remains active as a visual deterrent. No key coding procedure is required for the Malossi control unit.
The Malossi Injtronic is designed as a direct replacement for the original control unit. If the connections of the Malossi unit do not correspond with the original vehicle wiring, installation must not be forced by modifying the wiring harness. Malossi expressly prohibits modifications or tampering with the control unit.
Malossi specifies this product exclusively for competition use in locations designated for this purpose in accordance with the regulations of the competent sporting authorities. The applicable legal regulations in the respective country of use must be observed.
