Polini HT Clutch - High Torque racing clutch for Vespa PX, Rally, Cosa, T5, Motovespa

The Polini HT clutch (HT = High Torque) is a highly developed racing clutch for Vespa large-frame engines. It uses the principle of the reverse clutch, in which the lightweight hub - not the clutch basket - is connected directly to the crankshaft. This concept reduces the moment of inertia and ensures faster, cleaner gear changes - ideal for sporty engines with high demands on the clutch.

High-quality technology & materials

Both the clutch basket and the friction disc carrier are made of aluminum, which reduces the overall weight. A needle bearing hub minimizes friction and noticeably improves shifting performance. Aluminum friction discs are available for racing - with maximum grip under extreme conditions.

Individually customizable setup

The HT clutch from Polini impresses with well thought-out details: The spring stiffness can be adjusted with spacers. The clutch pinion is bolted on and can be exchanged for gear wheels with different ratios if required. For touring and racing setups, Polini offers both straight and helical-toothed variants.

Technical features

Reverse clutch design: Reduces inertia for better responsiveness

Aluminum basket & hub: Lightweight, precise, temperature-resistant

Needle bearings: Low friction - ideal for sporty shifting

Wave spring: Even pressure plate progression, adjustable

✅ S eparate clutch pinion: Interchangeable, suitable for many gear ratios

For touring & racing: Choice of steel or aluminum friction plates

  • Helical gearing:
    • PX200: 22 teeth (original: 23 teeth)
    • PX80/125/150, Cosa: 23 teeth (original: 21T)
  • Straight cut:
    • For Polini 64Z primary: 22 / 23 / 24 teeth

FAQ about the Polini HT Clutch (High Torque Clutch)

Question Answer
For which Vespa models is the Polini HT clutch suitable? The HT clutch fits all Vespa large-frame engines such as PX80-200, Rally 180/200, Cosa 1/2, T5 and Motovespa TX, DS and DN.
What is special about the reverse clutch principle? With the reverse clutch, the hub - not the clutch basket - is connected to the crankshaft. This reduces the rotating mass and improves response and gear changes.
Is the clutch intended for everyday use or only for racing? The clutch is suitable for both applications. It can be adapted to touring or racing by selecting the friction plate (steel or aluminum) and pinion gradation.
Can I change the clutch pinion on the HT Clutch? Yes, the pinion is bolted to the basket and can be replaced by gears with a different toothing/number of teeth (Polini offers helical and straight-toothed variants).
How is the spring stiffness adjusted? The spring stiffness can be individually adjusted using the enclosed spacers - perfect for fine-tuning depending on the engine setup.
What is a wave spring and what is its function? The wave spring replaces the classic diaphragm spring. It distributes the force more evenly on the pressure plate, which ensures a harmonious clutch and precise guidance.
Can I fit the HT clutch myself? With the appropriate workshop experience, yes. However, due to the special design, we recommend installation by experienced Vespa mechanics or workshops.
