The Malossi Power-up Clutch is a further development of the clutch type known from the Vespa Cosa models, as it was used by Piaggio but also from 1998 in the Vespa PX models.
The original Cosa clutch is very easy to operate, but has the disadvantage that the hub is riveted to the basket. The rivets can loosen / shear off with very powerful engines (for this reason, the BGM Superstrong is made in one piece from the solid).
Likewise, the original basket tends to open at a very fast revving engine by centrifugal force alone.
Malossi countered these problems in which they use a clutch basket made of high-strength, heat-treated steel. In addition, this was provided with a welded ring to prevent opening of the basket by high centrifugal force at high speeds. In order to achieve a higher pressure force and to avoid shearing from the hub, the Malossi clutch basket has twice as many spring positions as original (Cosa/PX from 1998 = 8pcs. Malossi = 16pcs.). The clutch can therefore be equipped with the necessary springs to match the engine power
