VMC sports gearbox 5-GANG Vespa Smallframe

The VMC 5-speed gearbox is a wonderful option for making engines with sharp performance characteristics very easy to ride. The gearbox has been completely redesigned and sensibly stepped for this purpose. The spread (bandwidth) of the gearbox has been reduced slightly, so the gears are closer together.

GRADING

VMC gear 1 + 2 → longer than Piaggio gear 1 + 2

VMC gear 3 + 5 → same length as Piaggio gear 3 + 4

VMC gear 4 → between Piaggio gear 3 + 4


The first gear can already be used as a full gear (not just for starting off) due to the extension. The higher the gear selected, the lower the gear jump. This results in a very easy to drive engine that does not fall out of the power band even at high speeds. Conversely, in the event of increased driving resistance (incline, strong headwind), you can simply shift down a gear without the engine over-revving.

The gearbox is supplied as follows:

  • Reinforced VMC wheel axle incl. rear wheel nut
  • 6-arm gearshift claw with reinforced spring and 2 balls
  • 5 special gear wheels with 56/53/50/47/46 teeth
  • Auxiliary shaft with 5 gears 11/15/18/20/22 incl. special fixing nut
  • Special kickstarter pinion (only suitable for VMC 5-speed gearbox)
  • Set of washers for correct alignment and elimination of play
  • Washer and Seeger seal

Suitable for original Piaggio crankcases as well as for engine cases from other manufacturers that use the original gearbox. The auxiliary shaft uses the conventional clutch cone which fits all clutch hubs on the market. The gearbox has been tested with powerful engines, but due to the narrower components required, we recommend using it in engines up to 25 hp.
