The POLINI Original Racing 2 is a classic box-banana exhaust for the Vespa Smallframe. Compared to the first Original Racing, it is significantly more generously designed: manifold Ø 38 mm, larger tailpipe and a design that is intended for powerful street setups and sporty engines.
| Exhaust type | Box / banana (left-hand side) |
|---|---|
| Manifold diameter | Ø 38 mm |
| Tailpipe | larger than the original Racing |
| Frame compatibility | Smallframe frame (PK frame not suitable) |
| Flange / stud bolt distance | Real connection width 58-60 mm (without modification, see info box) |
In practice, it is not only the hole spacing on the flange that is decisive, but above all the installation space for the nuts. On the original Racing 2, an external weld seam limits the usable area - this results in a different real connection width than pure "theoretical dimensions" would suggest.
Tip: Before fitting, stop the cylinder and manifold flange and check that the nuts are properly seated and can be tightened without tension.
The critical point is the installation space on the outside of the flange: The weld seam on the manifold limits the nut clearance. Therefore, the real connection width is 58-60 mm stud bolt spacing, even if less could be calculated from the pure hole dimension.
If you are working close to the limit: Check the fit with the nuts/washers provided. Only fit if the flange fits snugly and the nuts can be tightened without tension.
The POLINI Original Racing 2 is the right box banana for anyone looking for a compact exhaust for their smallframe, but who wants more reserves than the Original Racing. The following applies to tuning cylinders: The effective connection width on the flange is 58-60 mm in real terms, because the weld seam limits the installation space for nuts - checking in advance saves time and trouble.
