OTTOPUNTOUNO Hurricane brake caliper kit for Zip SP, Vespa and classic Smallframe

The Ottopuntouno Hurricane brake caliper kit significantly improves the front brake of Piaggio Zip SP, Vespa Sprint and Vespa Primavera and can also be used on classic Vespa Smallframe models if a Piaggio Zip SP fork or a POLINI fork with radial mount is fitted. Radial 4-piston technology, steel flex lines and MC-11 brake pump ensure very powerful, stable deceleration for racing and trackday use.

More brake reserve for modern and classic vehicles

At the heart of the kit is the 8.1 Avional CNC 4-piston brake calliper from OTTOPUNTOUNO. The radial screw connection and the piston geometry ensure a significantly higher possible braking force than the original two-piston caliper and give the rider very direct feedback at the lever. In conjunction with the MC-11 brake pump with 11 mm pistons, the result is a compact but powerful system for sporty use.

On Zip SP, Vespa Sprint and Vespa Primavera, the kit shows its strengths on the race track and at trackdays. In classic Smallframe conversions, where a Piaggio Zip SP fork or a POLINI fork is already fitted, the same braking performance can be transferred to the V50, PV, ET3 or PK. This adapts the front brake of old smallframe vehicles to the performance level of modern engines.

Hurricane: radial 4-piston technology from Avional

The design of the Hurricane brake calliper is based on the familiar FORMULA 4-piston technology and implements it with its own radially mounted housing. The two halves of the housing, CNC-milled from Avional/Ergal aluminium, are bolted together and then anodized. The result is a very rigid caliper with four Ø 24 mm pistons, which securely guides sintered sport pads and remains stable even at high friction values.

The Hurricane uses a hole spacing of 83.4 mm for the connection to the fork and adapter. The design differs from conventional aftermarket saddles, which is why adapters or axle mounts for Stage6 and comparable saddles are generally not compatible. Suitable OTTOPUNTOUNO adapters or fork mounts for radial calipers should be used.

Use on classic Vespa Smallframe models

In the classic Vespa Smallframe scene, conversions to Piaggio Zip SP forks or POLINI forks are common in order to use modern brake and suspension components on V50, PV, ET3 or PK. This is exactly where the Hurricane brake caliper kit comes in: If a Zip SP or POLINI fork with radial mount and matching adapter is installed, the radial 4-piston caliper can also be used on classic smallframe models.

This allows the front axle of old Vespa Smallframe scooters to be brought to a braking level that matches the engine power of heavily tuned or racing engines. The prerequisites are correct fork assembly, a suitable brake disk and professional installation of the brake system, including careful bleeding.

Kit contents and connections

The brake caliper kit is put together in such a way that the essential components of the brake system come from a single source. It includes the OTTOPUNTOUNO Hurricane 4-piston brake calliper, a right-axis MC-11 pump with 11 mm piston, a braided steel flex hose, an anodized Ergal bracket, M8x1 connecting bolts, matching O-rings and M8 fixing bolts.

An M8-10 reducer connection is also included if a standard line with a 10 mm connection is to be used. This means that the kit can be combined with standard handlebar pumps with an M10 thread, provided they are used for racing.

Area of application and approval

The Hurricane brake caliper kit is a motorsport product and is expressly intended for competition and the race track. The combination of radial caliper, sports sintered pads and steel flex line is designed for maximum braking performance and temperature stability. Use on public roads is not intended and is exclusively at your own risk.

Notes on fork, adapters and approval

A Piaggio Zip SP fork or a POLINI fork with radial mount is required for classic smallframe models.
The kit is not street legal and is intended for competition use only.
After the conversion, always bleed the brake system carefully and check its function on safe ground.

Conclusion

Radial 4-piston caliper, MC-11 pump and steel flex line deliver powerful, easily controllable braking power - exactly what is needed on the racetrack.

FAQ

Yes. The kit can be used on classic Vespa Smallframe models such as the V50, PV, ET3 or PK if a Piaggio Zip SP fork or a POLINI fork is available. Installation is not possible with the original Smallframe fork without ZIP or POLINI conversion.
Yes. The kit is designed for Zip SP, Vespa Sprint and Vespa Primavera. However, a final check of free movement, cable position and lever travel is of course obligatory.
No. The kit is designed as a competition product and is intended for use on the race track or in other closed events. Use on public roads is not intended and is at your own risk. The manufacturer accepts no liability for improper use.
The kit includes a right-axis MC-11 brake pump with 11 mm piston and a braided steel flex line with M8 connection. There is also an M8x1 banjo bolt with O-rings and an M8-10 reducer connection if a line with a 10 mm connection is to be used.
