Introduction

Aprilia Scarabeo 125 (2003–2006, ZD4TD)

The Aprilia Scarabeo 125 is an elegant large-wheeled scooter from the Italian manufacturer Aprilia, produced between 2003 and 2006. This model is part of the long-established Scarabeo line, known for its blend of classic styling and modern technology.
With 16-inch wheels, an upright seating position, and its signature neo-retro look, the Scarabeo 125 targets style-conscious riders seeking a comfortable and reliable scooter for urban and intercity commuting.

Model History

Launched in 1993, the Scarabeo series quickly became a staple of the European scooter market. In 2003, Aprilia introduced a revised Scarabeo 125 featuring an updated chassis, a new four-valve engine, and a refined design.
The water-cooled Rotax engine of the new generation offered improved performance and efficiency compared to earlier versions. The Scarabeo 125 bridged the gap between the smaller 50/100cc models and the higher-powered 250/500cc variants. After Aprilia’s acquisition by Piaggio, the model was produced until 2006 before being replaced by more modern successors.

Technical Details

The Aprilia Scarabeo 125 is powered by a liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine with 124 cc displacement. The four-valve engine delivers around 14 hp (10.3 kW) at 9,000 rpm and 11 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm. Power is transmitted via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Top speed is approximately 110 km/h. The frame is made of tubular steel, with a telescopic front fork and dual rear shock absorbers. Braking is handled by a 260 mm front disc and a 220 mm rear disc. Dry weight is about 130 kg, and the fuel tank holds around 8.5 liters.

Color Options and Accessories

The Scarabeo 125 was offered in several refined color options, including grey, blue, black, and classic beige. These finishes emphasized the scooter’s high-quality, urban character.
Accessories included a top case, tall windshield, passenger backrest, and luggage rack. The Scarabeo 125 was frequently used as a stylish daily vehicle – ideal for commuting, comfortable for two, and with unmistakable Italian charm.
