Material and technology

Ignition coils of this generation are located on the outside of the vehicle and are exposed to vibrations, temperature changes and weather conditions for decades. Insulation faults, hairline cracks in the housing or aged windings often lead to sporadic misfiring or complete failure of the ignition - especially when warm.

This is where the CIF ignition coil comes in and replaces the aged original unit one-to-one. The housing shape and connection layout are matched to the factory Type 1 outer coil so that existing brackets and cable routing can continue to be used. In combination with an intact contact breaker, capacitor and proper ignition cables, this provides a robust basis for daily driving.

How can I tell that my old ignition coil is causing problems?
Typical signs are misfiring when warm, poor starting behavior, uneven engine running or a complete lack of spark. Especially with decades-old original coils, these effects often only occur after a long period of driving and warming up.
Can I install the CIF coil without modifications?
Yes. The coil is designed as a replacement for the original Type 1 and uses the original mounting points and the existing wiring. It is not necessary to modify the ignition system if it is still based on contact ignition.
Is the ignition coil suitable for electronic ignition systems?
No, this version is designed for classic contact ignition systems. Electronic ignition systems sometimes have different requirements for primary resistance and ignition coil design. For corresponding conversions, please use the specifications of the respective ignition system.
Should I check other components as part of the replacement?
Definitely. The ignition cable, spark plug connector, capacitor and breaker contact should be in good condition so that the new coil can fully exploit its potential. If the history is unclear, we recommend replacing these parts as a precaution.
