Ignition "Road Classic" - 12 V / 110 W, DC - impeller in original look (cast aluminum) for Vespa Largeframe

12 V to 110 W DC Stable on-board voltage from the battery Bright light even when idling Contactless and maintenance-free Static ignition timing (Road) Pole wheel + fan ~1,740 g Cast aluminum in original look Made in Europe (VAPE)

Highlights

The Road Classic 12 V DC modernizes your Largeframe with the reliability of VAPE electronics, but remains visually as close to stock as possible: the fan ring and ignition base plate are made of cast aluminum and closely match the look of the original parts. The DC version feeds a battery and supplies lighting and additional consumers with stable DC voltage - ideal for SIP speedometers and other digital components. Contactless, bright light even when idling and a confident start - even with engines with increased power.

Quality and original look

  • Cast aluminum (fan guard and base plate) with a classic look - ideal for restorations.
  • One-piece, precisely balanced pole wheel for exact concentricity and reduced vibrations.
  • Tuned flywheel mass (~1,740 g): smooth idling, clean throttle response, riding feel suitable for touring.
  • All ignition components come from the proven VAPE technology; cast aluminum parts with a classic look come from SIP.
  • Regulators and electronics are optionally available in original-look housings (not from VAPE production) if the series appearance is to be consistently maintained.

Conversion from contact ignition

The Road Classic completely replaces the contact ignition. Powerful permanent magnets deliver high ignition current and up to 110 W electrical power - contact and capacitor service are no longer required. The markings on the pole wheel and base plate make it easier to set the ignition timing, even without a strobe light if required.

DC on-board power supply (direct current)

This version is supplied as a DC system: The current generated by the alternator is used entirely to charge the battery via the rectifier. From there, the battery supplies the on-board electrical system with stable, powerful DC voltage - even at low speed or with the engine switched off. Ideal for powerful headlights, USB charger, SIP speedometer and other digital consumers.

The Road Classic is therefore an inconspicuous but technically up-to-date solution for restorations and road tuning when a clean DC supply is required. A separate AC version is available for vehicles without a battery.

When using the DC version in combination with a SIP tachometer, clean speed signal acquisition is important: Either use the appropriate KOSO signal filter or connect the brown cable of the SIP tachometer to the white cable of the SIP/VAPE CDI. The number of pulses on the tachometer must be set to 1forDC ( 6 for AC).

Ignition timing

Supplied with static timing - practical for most 2-stroke street concepts in the original and road tuning sector. The pickup on the base plate is offset to better compensate for manufacturing tolerances; the ignition timing is marked on the pole wheel and base plate and can therefore be conveniently adjusted.

Installation and ignition adjustment

Simple installation at original points. Adjustment marks facilitate positioning; a check with a flash lamp is recommended. Ground points must be bare and tight; retighten screws after 50-100 km. For DC operation, the wiring harness routing and earth connections must be carried out with particular care so that the on-board voltage remains stable.

Pole wheel and fan wheel

  • Cast aluminum fan in standard look, one-piece pole wheel (precisely balanced).
  • Single-slot mounting prevents incorrect installation.
  • Optimized blade geometry for high cooling performance, even with mass inertia suitable for touring.

Wiring harness note (mandatory for old systems)

Older large frames often use decentralized self-regulating alternators (coils directly connected to consumers). The Road Classic (like VAPE in general) works centrally via a main power cable to the regulator or rectifier - a suitable wiring harness is required for this. At the same time, new cables avoid corrosion-related transition resistances. Suitable conversion wiring harnesses are available.

Particularly on PX models with combined ignition and steering lock (typically Lusso and later series), separate DC and AC circuits are provided ex works in the on-board electrical system. On vehicles with a 5-wire ignition base plate, the original regulator can usually be retained. In the case of 7-wire systems, it is necessary to convert to an on-board power supply and regulator of the 5-wire variant if the vehicle is converted to a fully-fledged DC on-board power supply with this ignition.

The AC version is a robust solution for classic scooters without a battery, but this Road Classic version is designed as a DC system: The current from the alternator charges the battery, from where the entire on-board electrical system is supplied with direct voltage - even when stationary. This is ideal for powerful headlights, USB charger, SIP speedometer and other electronic consumers. Important: Always combine DC conversion with a suitable regulator/rectifier and adapted wiring harness; for PX models with combined ignition and steering lock, the special features of the factory-mixed AC/DC wiring systems must be observed (see wiring harness note).
Yes. The cast aluminum fan cowl and cast base plate are based closely on the classic surface. If you want an even more original look, you can opt for controllers and electronic control units in the original-look housing (not from VAPE production). The technology and performance data still correspond to the modern SIP VAPE Road Classic DC ignition.

Note: A very good earth connection is essential for long-term trouble-free operation.
