Ignition VAPE for Vespa Classic - 12 V/110 W, contactless, bright light, reliable start

12 V to 110 W (at ~6,000 rpm) Bright light even when idling (~80 W @ 2,000 rpm) Contactless & maintenance-free Ignition setting without strobe AC or DC electrical system possible Pole wheel incl. fan ~1,400 g CNC aluminum fan wheel, balanced High cooling capacity Made in Europe

Highlights

The VAPE 12-volt system modernizes classic Vespa ignitions: contactless, strong light even at low revs and a spontaneous engine start. Long-lasting reliability thanks to high-quality materials, precise manufacturing and 100% functional testing.

Quality

Made in Europe. Laser-marked components for clear identification. Pole wheel and fan wheel are meticulously balanced; the CNC-milled fan wheel delivers high cooling performance with a stable flywheel mass.

Conversion from contact ignition

The VAPE completely replaces the old contact ignition and comes with a powerful 12 V alternator. Powerful permanent magnets ensure a high ignition current and bright light even when idling - the engine starts easily, contact and capacitor maintenance are no longer required.

AC or DC on-board power supply

Designed as an AC system ex works; can be converted to DC by replacing the regulator (floating stator). With DC, all consumers are supplied via the battery - power even without the engine running.

Ignition timing

Supplied with CDI for static ignition timing. This is suitable for most 2-stroke concepts on the road. A dynamically adjusting CDI can be used as an option.

Installation & ignition adjustment

Simple installation at original points - without "flashing". Markings facilitate positioning. Please install stress-free, carefully check sealing and earth points; retighten screws after 50-100 km.

Pole wheel & fan wheel

A groove system prevents incorrect installation. The appropriate flywheel mass is defined by the fan wheel; the mass inertia can be adjusted by changing the fan wheel. The aluminium fan wheel has optimized blade geometry for high cooling capacity.

Cable harness

A new cable harness is recommended when converting older contact systems: lower contact resistance, clean DC/AC distribution and reliable ground routing. Suitable conversion wiring harnesses are available.

Upgrade V50 / PK (Smallframe)

If you want maximum robust technology when modernizing your V50, Special, PV, ET3, combine the ignition offered here with a PK-XL crankshaft (Ø20 mm cone). This also fits into the old engine cases, but has a more stable alternator stub. For engines already converted to PK crankshafts, the ignition offered here is the right VAPE set.

However, if you want to convert an old contact-controlled engine from a V50, Special, PV etc. to a modern VAPE ignition without changing the crankshaft, you will need the set for the smaller 19 mm cone.

LED headlights provide significantly more light output (a DC supply is required here)

Note: Motovespa Smallframe (PK XL/FL 75/125) came ex works with electronic ignition (Ø 20 mm cone).

No. The markings allow adjustment without a stroboscope; optional rechecking with a flash lamp is possible.
AC is simple and robust. DC supplies power from the battery even when stationary; ideal for powerful headlights, USB chargers or additional consumers. Conversion by replacing the regulator.
For typical 2-stroke setups on the road, a static ignition timing is not critical and often performs better. A dynamic CDI can be used as an option if the concept requires it, e.g. for racing setups that only enter the power band above 6000 rpm.
Highly recommended for old contact systems from V50, Special, PV etc.: no need to adapt the wiring harness, lower transition resistances, clean distribution and reliable ground routing - especially for DC wiring systems. With PK models, the wiring harness can generally be retained if it is technically in order and already equipped with a voltage regulator ex works.
A perfect ground connection is essential. Poor grounding can cause malfunctions or even defects. Clean contact surfaces, screw tightly, check transitions.

Note: The ignition requires a very good earth connection to ensure long-lasting, fault-free operation.
