Introduction
Aprilia - Mojito 50 Custom (1999–2001, ZD4PKD1)
The Aprilia Mojito 50 Custom (model years 1999 to 2001, ZD4PKD1) is one of several equivalent versions of the first-generation Mojito/Habana. It combines classic Italian design with reliable technology and comfortable ergonomics for everyday urban use.
With its stylish retro look, low profile and easy handling, it was one of the most popular 50cc scooters of its time.
Model history
The ZD4PKD1 version was produced alongside its sister models ZD4PK00, ZD4PKA1 and ZD4PKB1. Differences were mainly due to target markets and equipment, while the technical base was identical.
With the Mojito, Aprilia launched a consciously relaxed scooter concept – distinct from the sporty trend of the time, focusing on style, comfort and practicality.
After 2001, the model range was replaced by updated versions, but early Mojito models like the ZD4PKD1 remain cult favourites.
Technical details
The air-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke engine with 49 cm³ and carburettor technology delivers approx. 2.8–3.2 kW depending on restriction.
Top speed is around 45 km/h, and power is transmitted via a continuously variable CVT transmission with centrifugal clutch.
Both electric and kick starters are standard, making the scooter easy to handle in daily use.
Its compact layout and maintenance-friendly technology make the ZD4PKD1 a great everyday choice.
Chassis and brakes
The frame is made of steel tubing, with telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear – tuned for comfort-oriented riding.
A 190 mm disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear ensure appropriate braking performance for city traffic.
With a dry weight of around 89 kg and a low centre of gravity, the handling is stable and beginner-friendly.
Most models feature 10-inch wheels front and rear.
Equipment and design
The Mojito 50 Custom features a low step-through, low seat height and upright riding position – ideal for city commuting.
Design details such as round chromed headlamp, classic mirrors, chrome accents and an analogue dashboard reinforce the retro character.
A helmet compartment under the seat and optional rear luggage rack offer added convenience.
Colour variants
The ZD4PKD1 version was available in classic colours like black, ivory, red or dark blue – depending on the market also in metallic tones.
Whitewall tyres and two-tone seats emphasised the vintage style, though no official limited editions are documented.
Many scooters were individually customised and are still popular in the scene.
