Introduction

Aprilia - Mojito 50 Custom (1999–2001, ZD4PKE1)

The Aprilia Mojito 50 Custom (model years 1999 to 2001, ZD4PKE1) is a variant of the first-generation Mojito/Habana, featuring the same technical platform but different market and approval codes.
It combines classic Italian retro design with proven technology and comfortable, urban-friendly ride characteristics.
Thanks to its low seat height, wide floorboard, and relaxed ergonomics, it was especially popular with beginners and style-conscious riders.

Model History

Type ZD4PKE1 was produced alongside the ZD4PK00, ZD4PKA1, ZD4PKB1, and ZD4PKD1 variants. Differences mainly concerned regional homologation; the technical layout was identical.
With the Mojito series, Aprilia made a clear statement against the sporty scooter trend of the late 1990s – and appealed to urban riders seeking style, comfort, and individuality.
After 2001, the model series was technically updated, but early versions like the ZD4PKE1 are now considered charming classics.

Technical Details

A 49 cm³ air-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke engine powers the Mojito 50 Custom. Output – depending on restriction – is approx. 2.8 to 3.2 kW.
Power is transmitted via a stepless CVT automatic with centrifugal clutch; the final drive is via low-maintenance V-belt.
Both electric and kick starter are standard – ideal for daily use and reliability.
Easy to maintain, user-friendly, and with a pleasantly smooth throttle response, this engine remains well-suited to city life.

Chassis and Brakes

The steel tube frame offers comfort-oriented tuning with telescopic front suspension and a single rear shock absorber.
Braking is via a 190 mm front disc and a rear drum – fully sufficient for the weight and performance class.
With a dry weight of around 89 kg and a compact layout, the scooter is ideal for city traffic.
The ZD4PKE1 was typically equipped with 10-inch wheels front and rear.

Equipment and Design

A low step-through, wide seat, and upright riding position are signature features of the Mojito – offering relaxed commuting even on longer city trips.
The round chrome headlight, classic mirrors, chrome accents, and analog round instrument cluster underline its retro charm.
Under-seat storage and an optional rear rack provide everyday practicality.

Color Variants

Depending on the market, the ZD4PKE1 was available in black, ivory, dark blue, or bold red. Metallic finishes were optional.
Whitewall tires and two-tone seats were popular style upgrades.
No official limited editions are documented, but many units were customized individually and are now cherished in the scooter scene.
