Introduction
Aprilia - Mojito 50 Custom (1999–2001, ZD4PKG1)
The Aprilia Mojito 50 Custom (model years 1999 to 2001, ZD4PKG1) is another variant of the first Mojito/Habana generation. Technically identical to other Custom versions, it differs mainly through country-specific type codes.
With its classic retro look, solid construction and everyday usability, it was a popular companion in urban traffic.
Its low profile combined with stable ride dynamics still makes it attractive today among vintage 50cc scooter fans.
Model History
The ZD4PKG1 type was built in parallel to models such as ZD4PK00, ZD4PKA1, ZD4PKB1, ZD4PKD1 and ZD4PKE1. Differences lie mainly in regional type approvals and optional equipment.
With the Mojito range, Aprilia aimed to offer stylish retro scooters with practical rideability – a clear contrast to the increasingly sporty designs in the 50cc segment.
After 2001, the series was technically revised, but variants like the ZD4PKG1 remain appreciated within the scooter scene.
Technical Details
The Mojito 50 Custom (ZD4PKG1) uses an air-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke engine with 49 cc displacement. Depending on local restrictions, power output ranges from 2.8 to 3.2 kW.
Power is transmitted via a continuously variable CVT transmission with centrifugal clutch; drive is handled by a low-maintenance V-belt.
Both electric and kick starters are standard equipment, making everyday use more convenient.
The engine is known for its simple maintenance, smooth throttle response and solid reliability.
Chassis and Brakes
The chassis is based on a tubular steel frame with telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear – tuned for comfort and smooth riding.
A 190 mm disc brake is fitted at the front, with a drum brake at the rear – appropriate for its power class.
With a dry weight of around 89 kg and a low center of gravity, the ZD4PKG1 remains agile and easy to control.
It is equipped with 10-inch wheels front and rear as standard.
Equipment and Design
The Mojito 50 Custom (ZD4PKG1) features a deep step-through, wide seat and upright riding position – ideal for city use.
Design highlights include a round chrome headlight, classic mirrors, chrome trim elements and an analogue round speedometer.
A practical helmet compartment under the seat and optional luggage rack make it suitable for everyday use.
Colour Variants
The ZD4PKG1 was available in classic colours such as black, ivory, dark blue or red, depending on the market also in metallic finishes.
Whitewall tyres or two-tone seats were often used to reinforce the retro look.
Officially documented special editions are not known, but many units were individually styled to suit the owner's taste.
