RS 50 Tuono (2003, ZD4TSC)

Introduction

Aprilia - RS 50 Tuono (2003, ZD4TSC)

The Aprilia RS 50 Tuono (model variant ZD4TSC) is another version within the Tuono lineup from 2003 and is based on the same foundation as the ZD4TSA and ZD4SEA variants. It combines sporty naked bike styling with classic 50 cc technology for the European market.
The ZD4TSC version was likely produced for specific countries or dealer configurations and shares many technical features with the ZD4TSA – with minor differences in equipment, colour schemes or emissions setup.

Model History

The RS 50 Tuono ZD4TSC was introduced in 2003 alongside the ZD4TSA model. Both versions share the same base layout but target different markets or homologation requirements. This generation focused on reliable, straightforward technology while maintaining a sporty appearance. Thanks to its ease of maintenance and clean design, the ZD4TSC remains popular with beginners and tuning enthusiasts.

Technical Details

The RS 50 Tuono ZD4TSC features an air- or liquid-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke engine with 49.9 cm³ displacement. It typically uses a carburetted Minarelli-based engine. Output is around 2.7 hp (2.0 kW) when restricted, up to 7–8 hp (approx. 5.9 kW) when derestricted. Maximum torque is about 5–6 Nm. Power is delivered via a manual 6-speed gearbox. Top speed in derestricted form is around 90–95 km/h.

Chassis and Brakes

The frame is a tubular steel structure with a central spine, as seen in other RS 50 Tuono base models. The front features a conventional telescopic fork, and the rear a basic mono-shock. Braking is handled by a 220 mm front disc and a 180–200 mm rear disc. Typical tyre dimensions are 90/80‑17 front and 110/80‑17 rear. The setup is simple and robust – ideal for everyday riding and entry-level sporty use.

Colour Variants

The ZD4TSC version was mainly available in neutral sporty colours such as black with red accents or silver with blue touches. Graphics and decals varied by market. Many riders modified their bikes with racing exhausts, handlebar conversions or aesthetic upgrades to enhance the aggressive styling.
