Stronger acceleration, powerful roll-on performance and a transmission ratio that makes more effective use of the IGET engine's potential: the BGM PRO sports variator has been developed specifically for the air-cooled Piaggio IGET 125cc three-valve engines. The result of extensive development and testing is a balanced combination of strong acceleration from a standstill, linear power delivery and an extended transmission ratio range.
The difference is immediately noticeable on the road. The Vespa responds more eagerly to the throttle, accelerates more forcefully and can transfer the available engine power to the rear wheel more effectively, particularly during roll-on acceleration. At the same time, the extended transmission ratio helps prevent the engine from revving unnecessarily high as speed increases.
The standard CVT transmission of the Piaggio IGET engines is designed, among other things, to comply with statutory noise and emissions requirements. This configuration limits the operating range of the variator and therefore the effective use of the available power range.
This is exactly where the BGM PRO variator comes in. Its specially developed geometry changes the usable transmission ratio range and enables the engine to transfer its available power more effectively to the rear wheel via the drive belt. At the same time, the usable rpm range is broadened so that the engine power relevant for acceleration is available earlier.
The BGM PRO variator does not increase the actual engine power. Instead, it optimizes the transmission ratio and therefore the way the available power is used while riding. This difference is particularly noticeable on a 125cc automatic scooter.
A sports variator needs to do more than simply increase engine rpm. The key is to keep the engine as effectively as possible within its strong power range during acceleration while still providing a sufficiently tall final transmission ratio.
This is exactly what the BGM PRO variator is designed to achieve. When pulling away and accelerating, it provides a dynamic operating rpm, while the extended transmission ratio helps prevent the engine speed from continuing to rise unnecessarily at higher road speeds.
This not only provides a sportier riding experience. The taller transmission ratio reduces unnecessarily high engine speeds at higher road speeds and therefore also has a positive effect on the mechanical load on the engine.
The variator body features a robust ribbed structure and precisely shaped roller tracks. Together with the black ramp plate and its three distinctive red sliding elements, it forms the central unit of the BGM PRO sports variator.
The front pulley features a large, evenly machined running surface. Together with the variator bush and the matched variator geometry, this creates a system that enables an extended usable transmission ratio range.
Two complete sets of BGM PRO variator rollers are included. The red 12 g rollers and blue 13 g rollers allow different setups for engine rpm and acceleration characteristics.
The weight and BGM PRO logo are printed directly on the rollers. An arrow additionally indicates the intended installation direction. The metal inner bushes provide precise guidance for the rollers.
This allows the variator to be adapted to the condition of the vehicle and the desired riding characteristics. The key is not to use the lightest possible roller weight, but to choose a setup that allows the engine to operate optimally within its usable power range during acceleration.
Suitable for the corresponding air-cooled 125cc IGET three-valve engines. The installed engine version should be checked before ordering.
The strength of the BGM PRO variator lies in combining both worlds: during acceleration, the engine can operate earlier and for longer within its strong power range, while the extended transmission ratio prevents unnecessarily high rpm at higher road speeds.
The result is exactly what a good sports variator should deliver: responsive acceleration from a standstill, noticeably greater agility, convincing roll-on performance and controlled engine rpm right through to the upper speed range.
