Vespa 125 (VL2 "Struzzo")
As an answer to the affront of the German Vespa licensee Hoffmann to develop an own stronger engine with 5 HP for the "Queen" without consultation with Piaggio, the Italian mother company started in 1954 with the production of a Vespa with 150 ccm, the VL. Because of the headlight, which is now mounted on the tubular handlebars, the VL got the nickname "Struzzo", which means "bouquet" in Italian. The VL is the first Vespa which is already serially equipped with a speedometer. (Source: GSF)
