The street racer is a concept in Lambretta design that has its roots going back to the 1960s. Since then, it has constantly evolved and continues to do so, fuelled by owners and manufacturers who continuously develop the technology that goes into creating them. The link to custom Lambretta building is clearly evident, but the street racer has its own rules that set it apart from everything else and raises the question of what those rules are.
Does tuning an engine or sticking a number on the side panels qualify a Lambretta to be classed as a street racer? In a way, yes, but the concept can be taken further than that and, in most cases, often is. How much further is down to the owner and how they perceive the finished project? Getting it right takes a great deal of planning because there are so many components to Lambretta street racer’s makeup. The engine, paintwork and running gear are the essential items, but fabrication and use of other materials need to be worked out before the work commences. The outcome of this, if done correctly, results in a stunning and unique creation, but one that can vary from machine to machine.
This book is the fifth publication in “The Lambretta technical series” and covers all aspects of creating the ultimate Lambretta street racer
