Brake lever & clutch lever set with ball end - Vespa PX & Largeframe up to 1997

This lever set corresponds to the shape of the original Vespa levers as fitted to late Largeframe models and the Vespa PX series up to 1997. The brake and clutch levers have rounded ball ends and a slightly cranked geometry - making them noticeably easier to hold and complying with the stricter safety requirements from the end of the 1970s.

Set: Brake & clutch levers Classic PX/largeframe look Ball ends to safety standard Aluminum, ergonomically shaped For front cable brakes (up to 1997)

Range of use & compatible models

In terms of design, the levers fit all classic Vespa Largeframe with PX/round handlebar fittings that were already fitted with ball levers ex works, e.g. late 150 Super, 125 GTR, 150 Sprint Veloce, 200 Rally, 125 TS and the complete P/PX series with drum brake at the front (P/PX 80/100/125/150/200, PX Lusso up to 1997). Many Motovespa PX/Iris/TX and LML Star/Stella with drum brake at the front also use this lever geometry.

Important: On PX models with hydraulic disc brakes from approx. 1998 (PX Disc, PX `98/MY), only the clutch lever fits. The brake lever is part of the hydraulic master cylinder and has a different design.

In addition, the levers generally also fit many license models manufactured in India, such as LML Star/Stella 2-stroke and various Bajaj Chetak/Super with PX handlebars and front drum brake. If in doubt, it is advisable to compare the existing levers.

Ergonomics & safety

Compared to the early, straight levers with a pointed end, these versions are significantly more ergonomic: the slightly curved shape reduces the required hand force and enables finer dosage - particularly pleasant in city traffic or on longer stages. The ball ends also reduce the risk of injury in the event of a fall and prevent the lever from getting caught in clothing or luggage.

Installation

The levers are fitted to the existing mounting points of the handlebar fittings and replace the old levers 1:1. Existing bearing bushes, screws and cable mounts can continue to be used, provided they are in good condition. After fitting, the play and actuation travel of the clutch and brake cables should be checked and adjusted if necessary to ensure that the levers are clean and operate smoothly.

Upgrade for earlier Largeframes

On early largeframe models with pointed levers (e.g. early Sprint, GTR, Super or Rally), the ball levers can be used as anoptional safety and comfort upgrade. This significantly improves ergonomics and handling without distorting the classic look of the handlebars.

Note: Retrofitting & mandatory conversion

Vehicles that have already been delivered from the factory with levers with ball ends should continue to be operated with this design. The set offered here is designed as an OEM replacement.

Classic large frames that originally still had pointed, straight levers are generally grandfathered - they may continue to be used as long as the overall condition of the vehicle complies with the applicable regulations. This does not result in a general obligation to convert to ball levers.

If you want to upgrade your Vespa technically and ergonomically, you can still use the ball levers as a safety and comfort retrofit.

FAQ

Yes. All PX models with front cable brake up to 1997 use this type of lever. The set usually fits plug & play on the original fittings.
Yes, retrofitting is possible. This gives you ball ends and a more ergonomic lever shape.
The clutch lever can generally still be used. The brake lever is part of the master cylinder on hydraulic disc brakes and differs in design - this set is not suitable here. Special levers for Grimeca/Heng Tong are required for PX Disc.
The levers are made of unpainted aluminum. They can be driven as they are, polished or painted or coated as required. Before coating, the edges and sliding surfaces should be cleanly deburred and lightly greased if necessary.
