BFA/FRT Shift Cross for Vespa PX Lusso, T5, and Cosa. High-quality replacement shift cross in a flat Lusso design with a standard center section. Ideal for engine overhauls and replacing worn-out shift crosses.
Important: Only for transmissions with a flat PX Lusso shift fork. Do not confuse with the cranked “old PX” version.
Smooth gear changes, reliable power transmission, and no time-consuming adjustments to the main shaft. The BFA/FRT shift fork for Vespa PX Lusso, T5, and Cosa is a high-quality replacement part for the later large-frame four-speed transmissions dating from around 1984.
This version features the standard center section without additional reinforcement. As a result, it matches the original installation geometry and can be installed directly into the designated Lusso main shafts—without the need for re-milling or other modifications.
In reinforced shift forks, the center section is often constructed with additional material. While this can increase the load-bearing capacity of this area, in some designs it results in the need to rework the main shaft in the area of the shift fork guide.
The BFA/FRT shift cross offered here deliberately uses the standard Lusso center section. The dimensions correspond to the intended stock geometry, allowing the shift cross to be installed in compatible main shafts without additional machining.
This is a significant advantage, especially during a regular engine overhaul: a worn shift cross can be replaced with a high-quality replacement part without having to modify the main shaft.
The shift cross connects the currently engaged gear to the main shaft via a positive fit. With every gear shift, it moves and engages with its four arms into the drive surfaces of the selected gear.
During operation, high forces act on these contact surfaces. As mileage increases, the edges of the shift cross can become rounded, and the engagement surfaces can wear down.
Typical consequences include imprecise gear changes or gears that slip out under load. If you continue driving with a severely worn shift fork, the gear teeth can also be damaged.
Replacing it in a timely manner therefore not only protects the shifting function but can also prevent costly consequential damage to the transmission.
With the introduction of the Lusso series, the transmission design of the Vespa PX was also revised.
The two systems must not be combined arbitrarily. The type of transmission actually installed is always the determining factor.
For vehicles from the transition period and for engines with transmission components that have already been replaced, the design of the old shift fork should be checked before ordering.

For Vespa large-frame engines with a flat PX Lusso gear selector, specifically:
For the early PX Lusso models, the following transition limits apply:
| Model | Lusso transmission starting with |
|---|---|
| PX80, V8X1T | 100231 |
| PX125, VNX2T | 232053 |
| PX150, VLX1T | 624302 |

The chassis numbers are provided for reference only. For vehicles with an unknown repair history or a modified transmission, the main shaft actually installed is always the determining factor.
The BFA/FRT shift fork can be installed without additional machining if the Lusso main shaft fits. However, when replacing it, a thorough inspection of the entire transmission is recommended.
The transmission must be fully spaced, and all gear positions must be checked for proper engagement. A new shift fork cannot compensate for worn gear teeth or a worn-out shift detent.
Shift pins, shift detent, shoulder rings, and other transmission components are not included.
This version features the standard, non-reinforced center section. It therefore conforms to the intended Lusso installation geometry and can be mounted on a compatible main shaft without any modifications. Reinforced versions with a larger center section may require additional adjustments.
No. If you have a compatible PX-Lusso, T5, or Cosa main shaft, no machining is required. The shift cross is installed just like the corresponding stock version.
Not in the original older PX transmission with a cranked shift cross. However, if the engine has been fully converted to the later Lusso transmission generation, it can be used.
Yes. The corresponding four-speed transmissions on the T5 and Cosa use the flat Lusso shift fork geometry.
If the existing shift fork is worn out, replacing it can restore reliable gear engagement. In addition, the gear teeth, transmission play, and shift detent should be checked.
Yes. It can be used in Lusso transmissions that have been modified accordingly. For engines with significantly increased power output, the condition of the other transmission components and proper spacing are particularly important.
