The 98mm engine housing bolt shown here is the longest bolt used in large frame engines such as Sprint, Rally, PX, Cosa and T5 engine housings. It is mounted at the height of the kick starter and runs through the hollow profile of the engine swing arm.
It is pushed through the housing from the clutch side, below the clutch cover. On older vehicles, this bolt is often heavily corroded in the middle, where it is exposed to both air and spray. Then the bolt is often difficult or impossible to remove from the housing.
Tip: To disassemble the engine halves, leave this bolt in the housing if it is stuck. The small motor half can still be removed and you avoid the risk of drilling out a bolt deformed by attempts to drive it out.
When fitting a new bolt, grease it well!
