All engine gaskets should always be replaced during an overhaul. The easiest way to do this is to apply a small amount of grease to the gaskets to make them stick to the housing, thereby preventing them from being kinked or damaged during installation. Sealant is only necessary if the housing is defective (scratches on the sealing surface, etc.). If an undamaged engine housing is still leaking, it is usually warped or bent. A warped housing is caused by housing bolts that were tightened unevenly. Ideally, the housing halves should be tightened evenly (in a crisscross pattern!) using a torque wrench. According to Piaggio specifications, the maximum torque value here is 6–8 NM.
