Tuning headset Stage6 R/T - tapered roller steering head bearing for Piaggio & Vespa 50-180 cm³

Forget flabby standard steering head bearings: the Stage6 R/T headset is an uncompromisingtapered roller bearing solution from the world of racing. CNC-machined bearing shells ensure a perfect fit in the frame without reworking - install, adjust, ride.

Why tapered roller bearings?

Tapered roller bearings absorb radial and axial forces much better than simple ball bearings, which is exactly what you need during powerful braking maneuvers, hard landings or high speeds: the steering remains free of play, fully damped and precisely centered. The result israzor-sharp, stable steering behavior - ideal for sporty road setups, city traffic with lots of braking and ambitious track use.

Installation & compatibility

The Stage6 headset replaces the original Piaggio steering head bearings56002R and 56003R 1:1. The installation height remains unchanged, so the fork and handlebars sit exactly at the standard level - no stress with threads that are too short or changed geometry.

Drive out/press out the old bearing shells from the frame and lower triple clamp.
Insert new CNC shells flush - make sure the seating surfaces are clean.
Generously fill the tapered roller bearings with high-quality bearing grease (mandatory for all tapered roller bearings).
Select the preload of the adjusting nut so that no play can be felt, but the steering is free.
Check the bearing play after the first few kilometers and adjust minimally if necessary.

Typical vehicles for use include Piaggio Zip, NRG, Sfera, Typhoon, Liberty 50 cm³, Gilera Runner 125-180 cm³ as well as Vespa LX, PK, XL, GTS and Cosa. In general, the kit fits many Piaggio Group vehicles with a classic Piaggio control column - if in doubt, a comparison with the OEM numbers 56002R / 56003R will help.

"Do it once, then rest"

Thanks to their high load-bearing capacity and robust design, Stage6 bearings are extremely durable andlow-maintenance. Correctly greased when installed, they rarely need readjusting - the steering behavior remains constant over a long period of time, without the typical jolting and catching of run-in series bearings. Ideal for all those who ride a lot or move a heavily modified chassis.

The Stage6 R/T logos lasered on the outside are a discreet but subtle detail - just enough optics to show what is installed when dismantling without destroying the standard look from the outside.

FAQ

No. The CNC bearing shells are designed to be fitted in place of the original Piaggio shells. Provided the existing seats are OK, installation is completely plug & play.
Yes, absolutely. As with all tapered roller bearings, a generous grease filling is crucial for service life and smooth running. Use high-quality bearing grease and check the bearing play again after the first few kilometers.
Yes. The kit has been developed precisely for high loads - the headset can cope with heavy braking maneuvers, high speeds and hard landings much better than simple standard bearings. However, it is important that the headset is fitted correctly with the correct preload setting.
In principle, yes, as long as no damage is caused to the seating surfaces in the frame during installation and removal. However, it makes more technical sense to stick with the higher quality tapered roller set as long as it is not worn out.
