Polini internal rotor digital ignition - quadruple programmable for Vespa PK XL
With its digital racing ignition, Polini is offering a genuine alternative to the Vespatronic ignitions that have been on the market for some time. In contrast to the Vespatronic, no conventional ignition from the automatic range has been adapted here, but a separate, completely cast-in base plate has been used. As befits a genuine racing part, this does not have a power supply for the vehicle electrical system. The very light flywheel, weighing just 1100 grams, carries an easily replaceable plastic fan with optimized impeller geometry. The blades have been designed in such a way that they still deliver sufficient cooling air to the cylinder even at the usual high engine speeds of a racing engine. The special feature of the Polini ignition that sets it apart from all other available versions is its digital module. Four different ignition adjustment curves are programmed into it, which can be called up via two DIP switches. This makes it possible to optimally adjust the ignition advance to the respective engine characteristics.
As is typical for two-stroke engines, this starts with a high pre-ignition value, which is then reduced as the engine speed and power increase.
The entire adjustment range corresponds to a maximum of 10° KW (MAP 4).
The following ranges are available:
- MAP1 (both switches in the off position): Nominal power between 9000 and 10000 rpm
- MAP2 (switch 1 on, switch 2 off): Rated power between 8000 and 9500 rpm
- MAP3 (switch 1 off, switch 2 on): Rated power between 7500 and 8500 rpm
- MAP4 (both switches in the on position): Rated power between 11000 and 12000 rpm
The pre-ignition is set to 23°, measured at 4500 rpm
. This corresponds to 2.6 mm for a 51 mm stroke; for the shaft used by Polini for the diaphragm-controlled EVO cylinder kit with 52.8 mm stroke, this is 2.7 mm before top dead center. The distance between the ignition and the pole wheel as well as the pick-up must be measured individually on each engine. Minor modifications to the engine housing are necessary. Further details can be found in the enclosed instructions.
Genuine high-end ignition that requires attention to detail during installation, but is also a solid and reliable basis for real racing engines.
Suitable for engines with 20 mm alternator cone
.NOTE: Requires a pole wheel puller M22x1.5 mm (see accessories).
