The SIP VAPE Road "Black Edition" DC is the modern conversion for all Vespa PK50-125, PK XL/XL2, ETS and 100 Sport with large crankshaft cone (M12). It combines a contactless high-performance ignition with a powerful 12 V DC electrical system. Plenty of light output is available even at low engine speeds, while the full-wave DC system enables a stable power supply via the battery - ideal for powerful headlights, indicators, chargers and other accessories.
12 V DC / up to 110 W (at approx. 6,000 rpm) Bright light even when idling (~80 W @ ~2,000 rpm) Contactless, maintenance-free ignition Static ignition timing (road version) Full-shaft regulator for battery operation CNC aluminium fan wheel, black anodized Pole wheel + fan wheel approx. 1,390 g, balanced Made in Europe by VAPE
Whether standard engine or tuned setup: The VAPE Road "Black Edition" DC takes the electrics of modern PK and ETS models to a new level. The contactless ignition ensures a powerful spark and spontaneous starting, while the DC on-board power supply system provides evenly regulated 12 volts for all consumers - even at low engine speeds and, thanks to the battery, even when the engine is not running. The black anodized CNC fan wheel ensures a high air flow rate and fits in perfectly with discreetly upgraded vehicles.
The system is manufactured entirely in Europe and each unit is 100% function-tested. The one-piece pole wheel with 12 magnets is precisely balanced and matched to the large PK/ETS cone (20/20 or 24/25 mm, M12). The CNC-milled aluminium fan wheel of the "Black Edition" is anodized black and combines high cooling performance with a flywheel mass that matches the driving mode.
The VAPE replaces the complete contact ignition system including alternator. Strong permanent magnets in the pole wheel generate a high ignition current and sufficient power for the vehicle electrical system even at low engine speeds. The engine starts more easily, contact maintenance and capacitor replacement are permanently eliminated. Thanks to DC regulation, voltage peaks are absorbed cleanly and the on-board voltage is kept stable at 12 volts.
In contrast to the classic AC system, the DC version supplies all consumers via the battery. The alternator feeds the battery via the full-shaft regulator, from where the headlights, horn, indicators and additional consumers (e.g. USB charger, navigation system) are supplied.
The Road version is supplied with a CDI with static ignition timing. This design harmonizes with both close-to-production engines and also with highly performance-enhanced road engines. Optionally, a dynamically adjusting CDI can be fitted if a very speed-oriented racing set-up is used.
The ignition is fitted to the original mounting points. Thanks to clear markings, the ignition timing can be set without a strobe. It is important to ensure that the earth is properly routed and that the cables are cleanly laid and protected against chafing. After the first 50-100 kilometers, the fastening screws should be checked and retightened if necessary.
As in the original, the pole wheel has a single groove, which virtually eliminates the possibility of incorrect installation. The flywheel matching the engine is defined by the aluminum fan wheel. In the Black Edition, a black anodized CNC fan wheel with optimized blade geometry is used. This combines high cooling performance, clean response and smooth running.
Many PK models were delivered from the factory with decentralized electrics or separate coils for the lighting and charging circuits. The VAPE, on the other hand, works centrally: all coils feed the regulator, from where they are distributed to the DC on-board network. An adapted wiring harness is therefore highly recommended for a clean DC conversion - especially because old wiring harnesses are often corroded internally and have increased contact resistances.
You can find suitable conversion wiring harnesses for PK/ETS models in our store. They are clearly labeled and make it easier to convert to a modern DC wiring system.
The DC version of the SIP VAPE Road "Black Edition" is ideal for all PK models and the 100 Sport with large crankshaft cone (M12). The cleanly balanced flywheel mass of approx. 1,390 g protects the crankshaft and noticeably improves the response behavior - especially with performance-enhanced engines.
At the same time, there is enough electrical power available to safely operate powerful headlights, indicators and modern comfort consumers.
