The VAPE 12-volt system modernizes classic smallframe ignitions: contactless, strong light even at low revs and spontaneous engine start. In the DC version, the battery supplies the vehicle electrical system with stable DC voltage - power even without the engine running. High reliability thanks to high-quality materials, precise manufacturing and 100% functional testing.
Manufactured in Europe. Laser-marked components for clear identification. Pole wheel and fan wheel are meticulously balanced; the CNC-milled fan wheel delivers high cooling performance with a stable flywheel mass. The one-piece pole wheel (without riveted cone) minimizes imbalance and bearing load.
The VAPE completely replaces the old contact ignition and comes with a powerful 12 V alternator. Strong permanent magnets ensure a high ignition current and bright light even at idle - the engine starts easily, contact and capacitor maintenance are no longer necessary.
This variant uses a DC rectifier/regulator (ungrounded stator): The alternator output charges the battery, from where all consumers are supplied with stable voltage - ideal for SIP speedometer, USB charger, fuel pump or lambda heater. On-board power remains available even when the engine is switched off. Note: A suitable battery is required for DC operation.
Supplied with CDI for static ignition timing - suitable for most 2-stroke street setups. A dynamic CDI can be used as an option. Markings on the pole wheel and base plate enable adjustment without a strobe.
Simple installation at original points - without "flashing". Markings facilitate positioning. Please install stress-free, carefully check sealing and earth points; retighten screws after 50-100 km.
A groove system prevents incorrect assembly. The appropriate centrifugal mass is defined by the fan wheel; the mass inertia can be adjusted by changing the fan wheel. The aluminium fan wheel has optimized blade geometry for high cooling performance. Note: The original pole wheel puller is compatible.
Older Vespa/Motovespa models often have a decentralized, self-regulating alternator (individual coils supply separate consumers, sometimes without a regulator). The VAPE works centrally: all coils feed a main power cable into the voltage regulator/rectifier, the distribution only takes place there. Therefore, when changing to VAPE, an adapted wiring harness is highly recommended, technically often mandatory. In addition, old wiring harnesses are often internally corroded → too high contact resistances.
We carry suitable conversion wiring harnesses in our store - simple installation, clear color assignment, reliable ground routing.
Smallframe engines with a small Ø19 mm cone (recognizable by the M10 pole wheel nut) benefit twice over: the lighter pole wheel (~1,400 g) reduces the load on the crankshaft and makes the engine noticeably more agile - also suitable for tuning. If you want maximum robustness, use a PK XL crankshaft with Ø20 mm cone and the corresponding VAPE kit.
The DC light supply allows powerful 60/55 W headlights and additional consumers (e.g. USB charger).
Early Vespa 50 V5A1T models used a smaller fan cover. When converting to VAPE, the original cover can be spaced out or a suitable cover from the subsequent version can be used.
| Frontier chassis number | V5A1T 1001-92876 = 1st series (small cover) From V5A1T 92877 = follow-on version (modified add-on parts/cover) |
|---|---|
| Recommendation | Either place spacers under the existing cover or use a suitable replacement cover. |
