This set is for Vespa Smallframe models with a small alternator cone. This includes all V50, 50N, SS50, SR50, SS90, V90, 90 Racer, V100, PV, ET3, PK S models. These still have a small (Ø19mm) cone which is not very resilient. This kit can be used to convert to electronic ignition as well as to the more stable crankshaft of the PK XL models!
FEATURES
Alternator and voltage regulator
The BGM PRO set relies on a modern on-board electrical system with voltage regulator. The alternator has modified coil wiring and produces a high voltage even at low engine speeds. This ensures a bright, stable light even at idling speed. At high engine speeds, the voltage regulator automatically regulates to a stable and gentle 12-13 volts. This also offers the option of charging a battery and/or supporting a USB charging socket for cell phones, navigation devices, etc.
Ignition
The BGM Pro ignition is based on the CDI technology used by Piaggio since the 1980s, which has proven itself millions of times over. The ignition pulse is triggered contactlessly via a so-called pick-up signal. The high ignition current, even at low engine speeds, ensures perfect starting behavior under all conditions. The contactless ignition triggering is stable well into the five-digit speed range.
Polewheel
The weight of the pole wheels is tailored to the respective application:
At 1600 grams, the small frame models are perfectly suited to the lively characteristics of small engines.
At 2300 grams, the large frame engines offer a wonderful blend of smooth running and excellent acceleration.
They are finely balanced, offer fantastic concentricity and high ignition timing accuracy as well as very good magnetization.
Thanks to the smaller circumference and the optimized vane surfaces, the engine hangs very well on the throttle and has better acceleration and slightly more power.
Conversion
This set is ideally suited as a replacement, e.g. to replace a defective ignition of a PK XL/ETS model or to have a completely new and high-quality base at hand when rebuilding an engine. The set is also very interesting for retrofitting previous models such as the V50, PV, ET3 etc.. These still have a weakly dimensioned crankshaft with a small cone. The Vespa PK models were given a larger crankshaft with the introduction of the sporty ETS models and the subsequent XL models. This has a larger alternator cone, recognizable by the M12 thread of the pole nut and the shaft seal ring with 20x32x7mm (PK XL) or 24x35x7mm (PK ETS). The larger dimensioned stub is useful for tuning with 125cc and more on the V50/PV/ET3 models (the stub can no longer tear off). To install a crankshaft from the PK models in the older V50/PV/ET3 models, the pole wheel from the PK models is also required. This set provides the basis for upgrading an old engine to a modern level, both mechanically and electronically. If you also need a voltage regulator and holder for the CDI, you should take a look at the BGM666PV20 set.
CONCLUSION
A very nice set to upgrade your Vespa to a modern, reliable and powerful electrical system. All parts are permanently available as spare parts.
NOTE: The original fan cover only fits with a spacer between the cover and engine housing (see accessories). Alternatively, the fan cover of the Vespa PK models can be used.
