Installation kit for the DELL'ORTO SHB 16.16 carburetor, designed for authentic restoration or conversion of classic Vespa small-frame engines. Compatible with Vespa V50, 50N, Special, V90, and select Motovespa 50/75 models. Ideal if you already have a 16.16 carburetor and need the corresponding mounting parts.
All necessary mounting parts for installing a DELL'ORTO SHB 16.16 carburetor on classic Vespa small-frame engines. The kit is particularly suitable for a faithful restoration or for reverting an engine that was previously converted to 19 mm back to its original 16-mm carburetor.
Especially with older Vespas, individual mounting parts are often missing after several decades, or the existing components are damaged and worn out. This installation kit provides the intake manifold, gaskets, and mounting parts needed for a professional installation. Ideal for anyone who already owns the appropriate carburetor.
The DELL'ORTO SHB 16.16 was part of the original engine configuration on numerous Vespa 50- and 90-cm³ models. Its straightforward design, responsive performance, and easy tuning make it an excellent choice even today for stock and near-stock small-frame engines.
This kit allows you to restore the original carburetor connection, for example, if a previous owner installed a larger 19-mm carburetor with a corresponding intake manifold.
Some Vespa 50 models were delivered with an SHB 16.10 carburetor reduced to 10 mm, specifically for market-specific 40 km/h registrations. Often, a heavily restricted exhaust was also installed.
Compared to this version, the SHB 16.16 offers a significantly larger carburetor bore and is a proven upgrade for stock 50-cm³ engines as well as 75-cm³ cylinders suitable for everyday use. Even a well-tuned SHB 16.10 can adequately supply a mild DR-75 cylinder. The 16.16, however, unlocks additional reserves and can improve throttle response and power delivery.
Important: Both carburetor types require different intake manifolds. The 16.10 has a smaller clamp mount and cannot be combined with the 16.16 intake manifold included here.
| Feature | SHB 16.10 | SHB 16.16 |
|---|---|---|
| Carburetor Bore | 10 mm | 16 mm |
| Intake manifold bore | approx. 16 mm | approx. 18 mm |
| Carburetor connection | Ø19.5 mm | Ø21.5 mm |
| Engine mounting | 2-hole | 2-hole |
If you want to keep the original 16.10 carburetor on a Vespa equipped with it, you will still need its specific intake manifold. The mounting kit offered here is intended for conversion to the SHB 16.16.
Note: Carburetor and air filter are not included.
The installation kit can also be used on numerous smaller Vespa models that were originally equipped with an SHB 16.10 or another carburetor model:
For Motovespa and other country-specific models, check the actual engine and intake manifold geometry before ordering.
The intake manifold is attached to the engine casing using the included gasket. The cast metal protective cap and the felt ring seal the connection to the carburetor. The felt ring should be lightly greased before installation to ensure a reliable seal against air leaks.
Important: This kit is designed for classic V50/V90 engine cases with a 2-hole rotary slide intake. For Vespa PK models, different versions are required due to the differing intake manifold geometry.
After replacing the carburetor, the jet settings must be adjusted to match the specific engine and exhaust combination being used. For vehicles originally approved for 40 km/h, the applicable registration requirements must also be observed.
