NOTE:
According to Section 56 of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO), every motor vehicle in Germany—including mopeds—must have at least one mirror mounted on the left side of the vehicle.
NUMBER
The number of mirrors depends on the date of initial registration (EZ):
- First registration before January 1, 1990: 1 mirror on the left
- First registration on or after January 1, 1990, up to 100 km/h: 1 mirror on the left
- First registration on or after January 1, 1990, with a top speed exceeding 100 km/h: 2 mirrors
SIZE
The size of the reflective surface must
- at least 60 cm² for vehicles registered before June 17, 2003 (for round mirrors, the diameter must be greater than or equal to 88 mm)
- after June 17, 2003, be at least 69 cm² (for round mirrors, the diameter must be greater than or equal to 94 mm)

TEST MARK:
Mirrors bearing a test mark automatically meet all of the above requirements.
- Vehicles registered in accordance with EC law (as of October 1, 2005) must be equipped with mirrors bearing the certification mark.
- Vehicles with ABE approval (prior to October 1, 2005) must simply use mirrors that meet the criteria listed above.
