Genuine Piaggio brake arm for the mechanically operated rear drum brake of various Vespa, Piaggio and Aprilia 50cc models. The lever is mounted on the operating shaft of the rear brake and provides the mechanical connection between the brake cable and the brake mechanism.
When the rear brake is operated, the brake cable pulls on the brake arm. This rotates the brake shaft and operates the brake mechanism located inside the brake drum. The brake cable is attached to the designated mount on the brake arm using a barrel-shaped adapter.
The product images show the distinctly offset, multi-part construction of this brake arm. On the brake shaft side there is a splined mount with a lateral opening. The splines provide a positive connection to the brake shaft, while the slotted section allows the lever to be clamped securely in position. The corresponding threaded mount for the clamping connection is located directly on the upper section of the brake arm.
The opposite end is designed as a wide U-shaped mount with two parallel tabs. Both tabs feature large holes. A laterally projecting stop and additional formed construction details are also visible on the curved central section. This characteristic geometry clearly distinguishes the brake arm from other Piaggio versions.
The brake arm is part of the mechanical rear brake actuation system and is therefore a safety-relevant component. During installation, the splines and correct seating on the brake shaft, the clamping connection and the attachment of the brake cable must be carefully checked.
After installation, the brake cable play and the function of the rear drum brake must be adjusted and checked according to the vehicle specifications.
